 :D I guess I should have asked what was the first form of motorized mechanical equipment you drove. We're going to exclude horse drawn carriages, but it could include vehicles with a steam engine.

Some good ones so far. :)

Learned on an Oliver tractor and and International flat bed when I was 12.
Family car I learned with for the street was a 53 Kaiser with 3 on the column

everything on before I moved on to something newer.

I learned to drivein a 1951 F3 utility body Ford truck with a creeper gear trans, Dad would send me to the gas station to fill it up every Sunday after church, I was 11 at the time, the first car I drove after getting my licence was a 1949 Plymouth 2dr with 3 on the tree. Boy that thing wouldn't start if there was a cloud in the sky within 50 miles.

Ibr8k, what engine did you put in that '68 Olds?

ROBERT GWALTNEY 04-15-2009 08:15 PM

1960 Pontiac Bonnieville, 4 door, one of the longest cars ever made and I had to parallel park it to pass the drivers test.

!!!

I learnt on a DKW junior, 3 cyl 2 stroke, 3 speed on the column. my dad had two of them because we had 5 kids in the family and needed two to go anywhere together.
My first car was a 1960 Ford Anglia ...the British one with the "z" back window, which I inherited from my brother in law. it was lowered and and had "Fat " tyres and welded rims and was an absolute blast to drive. That little 1200 engine used to rev to 9 thou. It broke often!!! I loved it

1964 Chevy Impala and a 1965 Corvair with my dad. Took the drivers test in the corvair (Easier to parallel park!). At school (yes my school still had driver's training classes!) we learned in 1970 Olds, I think it was a Cutlass. Learned to drive a stick in a 1969 MGB on the way home from buying it.

LudicrousSpeed 04-16-2009 09:28 AM
