I have owned my SPF going on 4 years now. The car has been rock solid and Lance has been extremely helpful with anything I needed. I spent years looking before I decided to buy, and it came down to a CSX or SPF. The SPF was the better choice for me. No offense, but BDR was not even in the running when I was narrowing down the choices.
BTW, I would re-think you position on the oil cooler. I live very close to you and it does get hot here in the summer at times. I have never regreted having an oil cooler.

Doug, not directed at you. Just the misinformation on what is on a BDR today.

Surpringly enough in the end it will not matter how much you saved or spent if you do not like the car so get the car you want!!!!!

Jim, everything else being more or less equal (both SPF and Backdraft build great cars and have fine dealers), one will say to YOU based on looks alone "Buy ME!"
Here is a pic of my Backdraft and Rod Allen's VERY nice SPF at Mid Ohio to see them in the same "stance".
Some like the more "authentic" looks of the SPF and some like the "more muscular" look of the BDR. Personal opinion varies a great deal on the subject. Neither looks exactly like an original Cobra. For that matter, very few originals looked alike. Go with YOUR heart and what makes YOU happy.
Obviously, I liked the looks of the Backdraft better myself (plus at 6'5" it fits me well) or else I wouldn't have bought a Backdraft. Also, I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with Backdraft and especially with Vintage.
Wishing you many fun safe miles to you whichever one you choose!

Having the 17's and your car setting a little further down in the weeds is a HUGE visual difference than a stock appearing SPF with period correct 15's. Just something to think about. You can run all kinds of different wheel/tire combos on these cars to get whatever look you're after.

Very good point. I switched from 15's to 17's and my car sits pretty low and it has a totally different look than the SPF in the above picture.

Are you referring to the car, the color or the engine?

JMHFO, but you know what would be nice? Just for once to have one of these threads comparing manufacturers not deteriorate into a bashing contest about why the other brand(s) is/are not good, rather than the good points of each being presented.
Then again this thread has actually been pretty tame compared to some here in the past, so I guess that we should be grateful for that at least.

I appreciate all of Jay's input here. I also appreciated Gordon Levy's input before I bought my FFR and re did it to my specifications.
Just because they are vendors doesn't mean their info isn't valuable. I have heard from a BDR dealer who defends his product fiercely.
Still haven't heard from any SPF dealer about why theirs is better. Maybe I have, but I don't remember it.
Jay has my business if I decide to go in that direction. If he is willing to give up alot of his time in order to help others AND promote his product, he must be a go-to guy (haven't heard anything to the contrary about his operation from anyone on this forum) The deciding factor for me will be how I feel in the driver's seat in either car. Everything else I can deal with. But, for me, the driving position is very important.
My FFR fits me like a glove. That's what I want in my next car too.
And, because there is no BDR dealer less than 600 miles away from me, I will choose the one that will set it up right from the get go. No do-overs if I get a BDR. Minor things I can fix myself. Major flaws will require shipping the car.
So, all things considered, I need to park my butt in both of them and see which one fits best. The money will be about even if I outfit the BDR the same as the SPF, so that won't be the deciding factor.

If the FFR fits you like a glove and that's the most important criteria in choosing a car, why change? Just stay with the FFR. Why mess with success? I'm trying to be objective here and support your decision making process.

Because I want to upgrade my current engine to a 408/427 for more power. To do that with my current car, I would have to upgrade the following systems:
Cooling, fuel delivery, brakes, engine and transmission. Total outlay, about $20,000 and I would still have a car worth about $35k.
