Leaky Breathers
 
On my 427so it seems the oil likes to make a tiny mess on valve cover after after a drive. You would think the valve cover would have a baffle under the hole to prevent this. They do make a rubber baffle to put the breather in but I think it will hit the rockers. Rather not spend the $$$ on a catch can and hoses, clamps etc. I like the simple look of just a breather and a pcv going to carb. Any tricks or ideas ???

I have a 460 with Cobra Jet heads, 1.73 Rocker Arms and the baffled rubber grommet clears on my valve covers. But, don't know how the 460 heads compare to the 427's.

These are my Blue Thunder valve covers. The baffling fits over my Erson's with no problems.

I have the pent. valve covers. I think I mite try the rubber baffle that the breather slides into first. It will b close but for the cost I guess its worth a try. Patrick, I have no idea why all the valve covers arent equipted like yours ? Thanks

Me neither; but I think you could probably weld a piece of sheet aluminum across the inside of your covers like that pretty easily.

I have these as a set if you are interested. Would normally cost $190 plus shipping new. They work outstanding on any valve cover and I never get drips or misting on my valve covers with these. The polished look would also blend in well whether you have an aluminum or chrome cover. One has no nipple and the other facilitates an -AN8 to go to the intake manifold (vacuum).

Cold welding, never thought of that....I'll ask around. Red, thanks but I'm trying to go the cheaper route first. If all else fails I will do the polished tank and stuff from www.performanceunlimited.com

I had the same problem. More annoying than anything else. I had an AN fitting welded on and installed a Canton Racing remote breather.

I just went to a thicker valve cover gasket which FelPro makes with a tin middle piece between the two cork or rubber halves and that let mine clear my roller rockers ok. And I never had an oil leak from the gaskets in the 10 years that I owned the car,

Most valve covers have bosses upon which to tack splash plates at the right depth...simply make sure they follow the same bend as the valve cover. They may not come installed since many folks use at least one for adding oil, and simply use a cap.

No, I had baffles in my valve covers and a twist on type cap on each side. Never had any oil residue on the covers or any leaks with the thick gaskets.
