Hi Dave,

In my case, an oil cooler will not apply in this situation because my oil is not overheating and I need to keep the temp up to where its presently running at 210-220*F for performance and wear reasons common to these engines. I agree about the limited room in the engine compartment. Fortunately with many of these cars, the radiator is slanted back at the top, so the fan actually discharges down around the oil pan and on the ground beneath the car. But coupled with headers and a cast iron block and heads, its hotter'n hell in there. My new fan JUST arrived this evening and it fits my radiator perfectly. I am confident this Taurus fan will do the trick, based on the fact that my existing 3600 cfm puller, along with the old 2100 cfm pusher laid in front, kept it idling at 197*F. That's without a shroud.

So El ... the fan ended up being the Taurus 3.8 unit, like mine only OEM?? Where did you get your info that the aftermarket ones don't put out like the OEM unit? I'd read various related threads on different boards and hadn't come across that.

When are you going to start the install? I'm wondering ... should you/I/we start a new thread, "Mariachi's marvelous Taurus cooling fan install"?... or sumpin like that Keep us posted on the install, I'll be watching carefully.

I did some more measuring yesterday evening and came to the conclusion that there's no way I could stuff that MK VIII fan behind my radiator. There's just not enough top to bottom along and fore to aft clearance. With the air that this Taurus unit moves compared to my old one I see no benifit in the MK VIII fan anyway.

Dave

Yes. The numbnuts that sold it to me runs a wrecking yard and to him I guess all these fans are the same. Nonethless, it is the 16" Ford Taurus/Lincoln Continental (not Mark 8) fan. There's a guy in TN on one of the rock crawling forums that said he tried a couple of new aftermarket fans next to an original and they didn't spin as many RPMs. I also exchanged emails with a guy on eBay who had both new and used to sell, but warned me that the aftermarket fans weren't quite as powerful as the originals. But if you already have it, I'd say go with it and see what happens.

Well if you caught my subtle post about boredom leading to a pan gasket swap and a tranny drop, then you'll know that I have those two jobs and this fan awaiting me. I am picking up my Hollister Road wiring harness from Dave today, so I will probably install the fan and wiring in the coming days and then fire it up as soon as the pan gets back from Armando next week.

I agree we should start a new thread and post pics of our installs so the crowd can begin BBQ'ing us. Feel free to proceed if you are ready to start. As ole' Ben Franklin said "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

Well, as I mentioned in my topic here:

Another overheating thread

there was someone who suggested checking the impeller on the water pump. Indeed, that was the root cause of my problem. Whoda thought that on a car with 500 miles? I'd be curious what the stimulus of the failure is so I don't do it. I suspect is was extremely fast acceleration.

Got a new pump and now solid as a rock at 78*C and that is without the aux fan running. This morning I topped it off after all the air bled out to the baffle plate in the Kirkham tank and there was no overflow in the coke bottle.
