Help for a beginner please
I'm looking at what I believe is a genuine Superformance MK111 in the UK but the chassis number begins SCX - I had thought they all begin SP ??? Please advise!!!
|
As far as I know all SPF car numbers do start with SP, as you mentioned. Are you sure the VIN the car is registered under isn't what your looking at? Almost sounds like someone registered the VIN for the car, playing with the CSX letters of the original Cobras. I got to pick the VIN for my SPF when I brought it into Calif. I chose to make it the build number SP01038.
Find out the number stamped to the frame cross bar (in front of the engine). Also, look at the trunk hinges where they bolt to the trunk lid. The SPF build number is on both attaching points. http://i39.tinypic.com/mjv1oo.jpg |
Thankyou for replying.
I have checked were you said - Trunk hinges - 303 number stamped on cross bar over engine - AC9CSLK1397AM1303 What does this mean!!!!??? |
Most newer VINs are 17 digit like the one you posted. Was that stamped on a metal tag, and riveted to the frame cross bar? Or, was it stamped into the frame itself? I would assume a 17 digit one like that would be on a metal plate riveted to the frame. The SPF number, if it is indeed an SPF, would be stamped into the frame. I have seen some SPF cars with a 17 digit VIN tag riveted to the frame (assigned by CHP or DMV).. and the stamped SPF number nearby.
If the trunk hinges both have 303 on them.. it's possible it's an early SPF chasis. If you can post pics of the car here.. I'm sure it will help identify the brand. |

It does appear to be Superformance car number 303. |
Is this a RH drive Superformance? If so, I think they used to use a different numbering system on these models going to the UK/DownUnder. Also, would this car be Blue w/ white stripes?
