Jag front end on a Shamrock????????
Ron has a Shamrock with the Jag front end. Shocks with coil springs on them. He wants to lower the front of his Cobra about an inch. How can we do this? What other Cobras have Jag front ends?

I have a KCC from S.A. with Series one Jag front end. The Shamrock has series 2 with ventilated discs and 4 piston calipers . The stock Jag rear shocks had two positions on the shock (at the bottom side) at which the spring plate could be installed and the front spring is just a rear shock and spring unit from the Jag.The Jag also uses two different rate springs on each side at the rear, so you can play with the settings a lot.Also the jag stock bushings are really bearings on the top control arms. Brake rotors should be stock GM units.

Ron's shocks are 13" eye to eye with a 13" long coil spring compressed to 10" on the shock. The coil is .53" wire and about 4" OD. The Cobra has a harsh ride with very little spring travel, maybe 2". He wants to soften the ride a little and lower the front end about an inch. This Jag front end has no adjustment.

If I remember the Shamrock two mounting holes in the frame for the top shock bolt. Maybe you need a softer spring and I have 3 way adjustable Gabriels on mine .

If I use the secound position on the shock, wich will compress the spring even more, Will this lower the car ?

Ron do you have two mounting holes where to top of the shock mounts to the frame? I do remember seeing two holes.

if you compress the spring more it will make it stiffer.The shock can only extend as much as it can. Moving the upper mounting in will lower the car.If it is tostif try another spring or ifnot try utting coils off that spring half a coil at a time until it drives right.

Only one mounting hole at the top. I guess I need shorter shocks and springs.

If there is space you could move the lower shock mount out or lower. You might have to remake the lower mount..but that is not a big deal. A spring with fewer coils should also help.
What about like I said ....cut the coils off half or one turn at a time.Its not actually as big a job as it looks!! |
Cutting the spring and making a new shock mount, may very well be the way to go. That would give me a good idea of the length I need if I decide to put adjustable shocks on. Thanks for your input.
