NJ Cobra Insurance - Which Company?

I currently insure my Cobra garaged in southern NJ with GEICO along with my other three vehicles. They are charging me $379 for 6 months for liability only. This seems like a lot. What companies are you using and how much are they charging. Looking for ideas about changing insurors.

State Farm and it's not even close; their rates depend on how miles you drive but they treat it like a regular car without any restrictions.

BTW, my State Farm agent is Joe Nachbaur in Jersey City 201.222.8866; nice guy; very helpful, signed me up over the phone; he called me from his home at 8:30 pm to get it done when I needed it.

$50,000 agreed value for $307 semi annually with I think 6k miles, no restrictions, i.e. can drive it to the supermarket and park it in their parking lot, etc.

Damn! I'm paying nearly $900 with American Collectors and I have a mileage restriction!

I did raise a lot of the liability and PIP limits to their max though...I should have shopped it this year when the renewal arrived...oh well...next year.

Look in your back yard. American Collecters located in Cherry Hills NJ.

Another for Robbin at Midwest.

My quote with American collectors was $900 for the year, that is why I went with Condon & Skelly. Shop around, quotes are free.

My renewal is up this month too. I currently have Condon & Skelly and I have slightly less agreed value, but higher rate (apx. $600/yr) I do have the highest available limits, so many that accounts for the difference.

Might be worth calling American Collector.

Just called American Collector- over $850 for same coverage I have now with Condon & Skelly

Archrms 06-18-2009 08:09 PM

I have American Collector, and it is in the 900 range if I remember correctly, with mileage restrictions. Definitely not cheap. Looks like I will be shopping it around come renewal time also.

Thanks for all the input. I contacted Condon & Skelly for a quote. I cut them a check for $258 for 3000 mile limit, $40,000 declared value. I'm going to call them on Monday and raise the value to $50,000. Inasmuch as my Cobra is registered in NJ as a historic vehicle with a 3000 mile yearly limit already it doesn't bother me about the insurance limit. I don't drive it near 3000 miles a year. Come to think about it, I have had my car on the road for 8 years now and no one from DMV has ever checked the odometer reading. Heck, the car has never seen an inspection station.

Archrms 06-30-2009 08:04 AM

Just checked with Condon & Skelly for same agreed value and coverage as I have with American Collectors, but with unlimited mileage = $404/year, which is $540 less than I am paying now.
