Low profile trunk jack

Out on a run today with a few of the members of the Utah Cobra club. Whilst cursing along my left rear tire deflated. It appeared to be a nail puncture. With a flat tire the frame is only 2" off the ground. To get the car up a bit higher we had to roll the tire onto some flat stones for a scissor jack to clear.

An Electric Scissor Jack looks cool, but don't know if it's low enough. The jack from the mustang worked ok, but had a short crank that was really hard to trun under the car.

A jack, plug kit, and a small compressor might be a handy thing...

Question... What have any of you done out there for a jack?

Well...stop cursing in Utah!

Honestly...that's why a can of Inflato-Goop and an air compressor makes sense. You really don't need to jack a car up to use an external rope plug for anything bigger than the goop will seal...just inflate it a bit and roll the car forward til you get good access to the hole.

The 86-89 Honda Accord scissors jack and handle compresses to about 3.5".

Jack: 89310-SM1-A02
Handle: 89000-S01-A00

OK, you have it jacked up. Where do you carry a spare tire? Maybe I have too much junk in my trunk.
I carry plugs and a couple of cans of Inflato-Goop.

I keep a $10 "shorty" Pep Boys bottle jack in the trunk, along with two of Rob Frink's billet collapsable jack stands (which have two perches built-in for different heights). Also a can of Fix-A-Flat.

FWIW, another great option (for inflating) is to buy the portable compressor/repair kit that came with the '01-04 Corvette Z06. It also includes the sealer liquid. Very portable and readily available on FleaBay, and made for a car that does not have a spare tire (like the Z06). You just need a cigarette lighter accessory jack.

For the ERA I have the spare tire (knockoff available from ERA, Halibrand) which fits in the 289 "spare tire well". I found a custom Pantara billet aluminum scissor jake that is only about 1.5 inches thick when collapsed. Works with a 1/2 drive rachet and extension. Still have plenty of room in the trunk for folding chairs and such.

Where did you get the Pantara billet aluminum scissor jack?

I believe I bought it from Pantera Motorsports in Orange, Ca. It was quite a few years ago. I checked their website and did not see it listed, but they still may have it available.

Give them a call, it wasn't cheap.

I picked up an aluminum sissors jack kit from a 300z on ebay for $25. The kit has the jack, a spinner rod and two folding tire chocks fitted into a piece of foam rubber.

I carried a plug kit and a foot pump in my T/A for the occasional screw the tires would pick up. The ground effects made jacking the car a real chore.

Torin "Big Red" racing jack 1.5 ton ..weighs 25 lb. compresses to 3.25 " (it is a blue jack). I carry this in a small "gym bag" along with a single post aluminum jack stand, for safety (the post inserts into the base to 'set it up'). The ERA is a very stiff chassis, this racing jack lifts one side up .. put the jack stand in place ..ease off the jack and you're in business. Got them at Northern Tool.

Searching I found this:

Perfect for a Cobra, but pricey...

I use a jack from a newer Camaro. It is probably 1.5" tall in its lowered state and is pretty small. I also grabbed the spare tire since it had the bolt pattern which matched my car.

I use road side assist. They usually take about 30 - 40 minutes to get out and have the lot with them. They take the wheel off and repair the tyre/tire and inflate it for you as they have all the equipment and compressors with them.

I also carry the repair in a can, but the cans we have here, have a number of warnings on speed and time to run.

We buy that roadside assist at $80 per year through the RACV. www.racv.com.au

I have tried all different ways to lift the Cobra and the GT40 and find as was suggested best to drive up onto a kerb/gutter or higher ground. Ford also have a small jack in their Focus here - small sedan.
