I need a composite gear for a roller cam. What are people using?
My 427 is almost done and I need my dist gear. What are you guys using and where did you it?

There is no gear for FE motors yet
ng8264723 I got a gear though a friend that is composite. They are not building them yet. Comp is the one to ask. You want a gear that matches your camshaft material. Rick L.

Composite will outlast bronze, bronze does wear out faster than steel.

It's like a carbon graphite composite
FWB It's a magic material that just doesn't seam to wear. If the mix of the material is to hard the gear breaks, same for too soft. 2 yearson the shaft on my distributor and no wear. I had a steel gear on for 9 years and also no wear. I have oil leaking on the location between the to gears where they meet. I also have only .003" of end play for the cam shaft. This also stop alot of wearing on the gears both camshaft and distributor. Oil to this location and the timing chain extend the life of both 50% longer and cool the parts too. Rick L.

Personally, I think this is another area that removal of zinc from the oil caused problems with. Run a stock iron gear (not steel) and keep your zinc level where it needs to be. Like magic it won't fail just like 20yrs ago...;)

FWB I will call and ask. This is a private company that sell to companies like Comp cams. It is magic, the powder is poured into a mold and a 100 tons od pressure applied to make the gear. There is a 2-3% fudge factor they have to work with. I will try and call monday, if it's ok I will e-mail you monday night with his answer. Rick L. He will explain just how the MAGIC works.%/:MECOOL:
