Oil Pressure Problem

I have a 351 Cleveland that has been running fine. The oil pressure at idle has been about 35 PSI and at 3500 RPM around 75 PSI. This weekend the oil pressure was 75 at idle and 100 at 3500 RPM. I thought it might be a bad sensor unit. I replaced it and now the gauge shows a constant 125 PSI (gauge pegged) at any RMP. Any ideas?

Can you plum in another gage?

Is this an electric gage or one with the oil that goes to the gage? The way I tested mine was to get another gage and disconnect the one in the dash at the sending unit and hook the other gage on at the sending unit. Turned out my gage in the dash was ok, but the sending unit, a new one, was not good. Except I had way low oil pressure after changing it.

I keep a cheap $15 mechanical gauge in the tool box just for a test tool. No senders, just go right to the oil presure source on the engine.

Assuming the gauge reading is correct, and you have verified the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.

Check the oil level on the dipstick. Anyone add more oil by mistake?

Why would too much oil produce high oil pressure? If anything, it would produce reduced oil pressure.

Thanks, everyone. Good ideas. I'll get a mechanical gage and check it. I'll also stop by and exchange the new sending unit. Who knows I may have gotten a bad one.
