New , and...HellO!!!!
I don't know where to post this, so..... Hello. I have always loved, loved, loved Cobras!!! Sadly, I am on a Diet-Coke budget :CRY: Now, I know Budget and Cobra don't belong, but, you can never learn enough info. So, my question is: Keeping a Ford a Ford, has anyone put a T-bird SC drive train into a Cobra? I have a complete great running car, body is shot. I wish I had a mustang donor, but, I got what I got,lol. Any thoughts?? I know " anything" can be done, and I have decent backyard skills ( not Foose or Covell). Just curious. Thanks!!

Buying a kit is going to cost you about $20k.
I'm seeing complete Cobras for sale for just a little over that. This is a good time to buy one that is complete that somebody needs to sell in a hurry (seems like, with the current economy, there are, sadly, a lot of people in that situation). If you have the money to buy a kit, might as well buy a complete Cobra from an eager seller. There are quite a few out there. DD |
Oh, and that $20k for a kit? Just a roller, in pieces, and not complete with everything you need. Figure another $20k-$30 to complete it.

Speedo1.......welcome to CC........you can build on a budget it just takes longer and there is always the possibility you will loose interest in your project.........that being said.......i built my car on a budget,started with a frame and body(Midstates)and started buying parts here and there and took the engine and trans out of my dailey driver and used them(rebuilt them)and 6 years later i have a fine example of a Cobra built on a budget.I suggest you contact Shell Valley Custom Wheels and talk to Travis and ask for a sales packet and go from there....the number is1-888-246-0900 or check out their web site www.shellvalley.com...tell them i sent you.

What about your not-so-typical drivetrain? I.E., the SC drivetrain?

The answer to your initial question is the T-Bird SC drivetrain would work fine. There are more and more unconventional drive trains showing up all the time. So, go for it if that is the track you choose.
If on the other hand, you can swing the purchase of a used Cobra....the market is flooded with nice cars. Look at that carefully unless you just have to build your own. Trust me, there will be plenty to do to satisfy your itch to build if you buy a used one. Remember, a Cobra is NEVER finished!!!!! Good Luck |
