What type of person would buy what type of replica?

Many kits fit the needs of the people that own them. This is what BDR's are fundamentally designed to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUIa0RRsbj0

It may not be the "perfect" replica, what it does is fulfills the needs of those who like to push their vehicles as our thoroughbred lineage was designed to do. To me racing our replicas adds to the Cobra pedigree, and keeps the racing blood flowing with current technologies that we not available on the 60’s.

Even if you don't agree with me, I bet you smiled watching the video and wish you were there doing it. ;)

That is an interesting question. I started with a B&B, then built a Hurricane, then a Kirkham FIA, and I drive a RCR GT40 now. Ironically the GT40 does everything I ask it to do so well that it is a little scary but it has never let me down. If I am not mistaken, I have been behind and infront of that car on the track and it runs very well. My next car will likely be a BDR with some upgrades for the track. That is a great video. I wonder if that is Tony Marten or Reg Dodd driving the car?

That is what we mean by "Unreal" ... best part of that, a "driver" hopped a plane from France and took the wheel. This is where we are going, not necessarily where we have been.

Jay, in playing with the Vintage Motorsports quote page and showroom page it looks like BDR and Superformance are now priced pretty much the same, right? And are 496FEs really up in the mid to low 20s now?

Cashburn 08-30-2009 05:11 PM

Pat,
We're just waiting for your INTERVENTION... it's long overdue. Engines alone are 15 right? Why don't you finish it?

FYI, single roll bar in that race car and no foam. All I want to know, do you have atleast 1 mile for every post you have here? I kid, I kid...

I probably could use one. And honestly, I think I'm a bit out of touch with costs anymore. Sorry.:(

Before we descend into T&L land... let me just say, this is all fun and the more you drive your car and love it, I am happy.

No, nothing like that. Someone asked for my input on costs and I told them that I was "pretty much out of the loop" on that sort of stuff, but that I would take a look around. That look around mostly confirmed that I am indeed out of the loop.

I have owned both, BDR's still give you more bang for the buck and allow you options spf doesn't such as skipping the convertible top. On the flip side SPF offers some items BDR doesnt. I am sure some people can negotiate a new spf identicle to a BDR for less money and vice versa. It is up to the buyer, sellers position and motivation. In the end for the most part they are within 10% of each other in price.

That's what I gather. Are the prices reflected here: http://mustangdepot.com/OnLineCatalo...ne-pricing.htm generally consistent for Roush produced FEs?

madmaxx 08-30-2009 06:44 PM

Wow, I just watched the video, THAT IS NO STOCK BDR, nor is it a stock driver. Sheet I couldn't drive half that fast. wow!!!

dlampe 08-30-2009 07:03 PM

I'm not sure I agree on the the price issue. I have been pricing out both cars and the BDR is still about 10k less. I built 2 BDR's last year for some friends of mine and we had very pretty new 390's with mostly new parts, aluminum heads, etc.. They ran TKO 600's and were stock BDR's and they had just under 45K in a running driving car with stainless pipes and roll bar. These cars came with drive shafts, motor mounts, a safety hoop for the drive shaft and a battery already to go. I think the similar car in an SPF will be just under 55K. I think the SPF has some very nice stuff that makes it worth more than a BDR but you will pay more to get it.

Looks and sounds like a lot of fun.

That is a BDR TD car. TD = Track Day. The street cars are known as RT3s or RT3Bs now.

As for the BDR vs. SPF price comparisons you can negotiate deals now on any brand so you have to compare MSRP to MSRP and decide what options are important to you if any. Most people when buying a 3rd car roadster don't find they need a top or heater in my experience. But they do need a quality V8 with some real HP under the hood. :3DSMILE:

Dean, how were the headers that you got with those cars? Most everything that I got with mine (#687) is beautifull but the headers are shiit.

Steve

dlampe 08-31-2009 05:06 PM

I had an FE install and the headers fit well on one and not that well on another. The quality seemed to be ok on both. On both cars I had to adjust the motor mounts position and increase the hole where the exhaust exits the body. The FE engine has to go just in the right spot to work. I would also use a hydraulic throwout bearing with an fe because the supplied slave cylinder brackets didn't work. All in all it was a very easy build.

Madmiles442 08-31-2009 06:01 PM

Not bad for a frog. ;)
I've seen that car too. Briefly, mind you, he flew by me like I was in first gear. Really, really modified car. Purpose-built. Great fun video.

Rwillia4 09-02-2009 03:27 PM

I wish I had extra time and $$ to have that fun!!
