Switches in Dash

Hello all,

I am using the Lucas style switches in my dash. Has anyone had the problem of mounting the switch in the dash and not having enough depth to screw them down? I am have more trouble with the Lights and Wiper switch (toggle).

If so, what are you recommendation.

If its a fibreglass dashboard and the fibreglass is too thick, you can buy a small hole-cutter for your drill (kinda looks like a spike sticking out of a flat blade) - usually used for cutting holes in wood/board. Drill from the back of the dash with dash pressed down on a scrap piece of board/wood. Drill slowly, stopping frequently to check, and you can reduce the thickness of the fibreglass surrounding thr thread to an acceptable level.

This is a metal dash.

I was thinking of filing down the switch face to hopefully grab some threads

If yours is like mine, u have an aluminum dash with a thin piece of foam padding, then the leather. I had to cut the foam back away from the hole in the aluminum by about an 1/8" or a little more.

jopper,

The leather is already glued and with the foam. Were you able to remove the foam when covered.

Don't disassemble the whole thing, get an xacto knife and go in the holes between the leather and the aluminum and cut back the foam.
