chrome falling off lake pipes

Hi Guys (inc DRB Australia !!!) the chrome is peeling away from my lake pipes, Had them 3 yrs now, there is the old chicken wire effect on the chrome plating, and there does not appear to be any (copper) or nickle primer on the pipe itself, starting to rust, Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you rectify it. pz help as to re-chrome is a costly process. Thanks ---Mic

It sure sounds like a crappy job by the plater !
Did you pay for the work or did you get these second hand ?
Either way, someone got screwed !

I would prefer highly polished stainless steel over any,.... coating. Check out mine.

Beautiful and will never rust. ;)

Agreed. That's why your local muffler shop switched to tires and brakes after car companies switched to stainless steel exhausts on autos.

Mild steel, heat, and moisture equals rusted out exhausts.

Crappy plating, no other reason. Semi truck stacks get as much heat & WAAAAY more hours on their chrome stack pipes & they can last for many years if the chrome is good. The imported Chinese chrome is all crap on the truck stacks - lucky if you get 6 months out of them. Double nickle & chrome & do it right, it'll last for many years.

I talked with a guy at MATS last year that had his chrome stacks on his truck for 23 years & they still looked good.

Hello Rick & thank you. :3DSMILE:

We make them ourselves. After seeing what's out there, I wanted higher quality and something that would last the life of the car,......or me. lol

304 stainless
No glass pack to blow out.
No coating to dull out or flack off.
No rusting.
Easy to clean & polish.

Look how the collector and the turn out, slide in between the muffler and the outer shell, for a nice & tight clean fit. Plus, it requires on very small tig weld.
And,...beautiful.

I gained 6 hp at idle, on the chassis dyno.

Send me an email & I'll give you details and many photo's. I'll send you my number also.

Listen to the sound oh these pipes on my cobra. Not high rpm's and clutch slipping but, they sound great. Although it's a open muffler, listen at the idle, I don't believe their too loud, even my wife says so. lol

I love a good chrome job. ;)

I have several chrome parts on/in the car but, not on the pipes and never will. A few people have had good luck but, not many. I drive my cobra too much to have chrome.

With the cobra's side pipes being so low to the ground and the tires throwing pebbles, you'll get chips with chrome, which means,..... rust.
With stainless, it's not an issue.

He hasn't posted here in over a year...

Which way have you got the flow? Into the louvers or across them.
My muffler shop tells me to flow across so as not to burn out the glass mat.
