F1 to New York City area in NJ ?

Source: AutoWeek.com

" Bernie Ecclestone wants a Grand Prix in the Big Apple, according to a published report.

Formula One commercial boss Bernie Ecclestone told an Italian media outlet that he wants to bring his sport back to the United States, and that the New York City area is his targeted destination.

"I'm trying to do it for 2012," Ecclestone told Gazzetta dello Sport. "It would be in front of Manhattan, in New Jersey, with the skyscrapers in the background, 15 minutes from the heart of New York to the circuit, it would be marvelous."

Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 2007 U.S. Grand Prix was the last time F1 visited the country. "

I suppose if he's willing to front the money to repair all the potholes, then someone will entertain his idea? I love F1 but not sure if NYC is the correct draw point? Tough call.

Bernie's not going to spend a single dime to bring a GP to NY...he only takes people's money.

Doug speaks the truth. Just ask Tony George.

I loved f1 at Indy. I'm not sure how they would do it in NY city.

Yeah, I've read the stories. Bernie is like bad, cheap cologne. You can smell it across the room before the person wearing it walks in your direction.

Agree on the Indy venue...it seemed to work. The only alternative would be a seaside street course like Miami, Long Beach or Seattle. San Francisco would be incredible with all the ups and downs, but it would also bottom-out and rattle those cars to death. I think the No Cal tree huggers (among other specialty interests) would also protest, accordingly. That's not a slam on anyone, just the honest truth.

I have so many things to say about Ecclestone none of which are allowed to be posted here. F1 is a wonderful motorsport and he is such an a--hole! What a shame.:p

Bernie sees the potential market size, umpteen million people within three hours drive. Umpteen million people to whom a "car" is painted yellow and has a light and a meter!!!!!

If you want to see fast cars without spending a fortune go to Watkins Glen for the Indy Cars. Tons of parking, easy access to the garage areas, lots of available seating and it's all very affordable!

If it would go back to Long Beach CA, it will have come full circle.
I don't care where just that it is here somewhere.

NYC would never shut down for three days for Bernie's F1 circus. Just because the arabs donate hundreds of millions to his coffers for these new fanless races in the desert he thinks he can recruit any city/country he wants. Bernie has single-handedly ruined F1 racing.

The Meadowlands area around Giant stadium appears to be ideal for a Race track. Check it on google maps satelite view. Lots of asphalt roads, very easy access from the tri state area AND Manhattan in the background.
I'll be there if it happens:)

The Long Beach F1 days were great! I watched the Bahrain F1 race and the IndyCar race in Brazil last week. Hands down, the IndyCar race was more exciting. I'll give both another shot this weekend and see how they compare.
