Hallett Track Event Days June 1-3, 2012
With the help of Dave Williams of Fastlane Classic Cars in St. Louis I have rented Hallett for June 1-3, 2012. The Friday date June 1 will be a test n tune day and will be an inexpensive day to shake your cars down. Sat and Sun will be open track days with a little bit of competition for those that want to see how they stack up with everyone else. Probably two or three classes. Sunday will also offer a trophy for an overall winner. Nothing to fancy
This event is not limited to Cobras but anything that would be considered track worthy. From the interest we have had so far I can tell you there will be a good representation of most performance cars and a couple you normally don't see a most track day events. This is intended to be a fun weekend with plenty of track time and very few rules to complicate things. One side note is that we will be bringing in one of the driving instructors from the Bonderant Driving school in Arizona for the weekend. If you want lessons you can make arrangements for his expertise. Of course Hallett also has driving instructors that will be available too. I will be posting invitations for everyone to register sometime in March so save the date if you can. We would love to see you in Tulsa June 1-3, 2012. Clois Harlan tulsacobra@valornet.com |

I assume passing rules will still be HPDE type? What classes are you considering? What determines 'winner'? Combined single best CW and CCW lap? BTW, I'M IN! . . . . |

I will talk to Jerry and see if he can post them under my name.
Great time and some very fast times on the track. NO ACCIDENTS and the weather was perfect. Sammy was phenominal on the track. Mat and I were trying to figure out how he was cheating. As it turned out he just has much bigger stones the us. The Saint Louis Group was turning some very impressive laps too. Tim Maulden, Mark Earls, Jim Dooley and a few others. Ron Froh had a very wide Cobra too, although he was quite fast. And some of the street cars that showed up were just awsome. And, then there was Mike Burnhardt and Dean Lampe who brought there "kit cars" ????? The SLC and the Spice Car look a whole lot like Daytona Proto Types to me. On Sunday Mike Burnhardt pulled out his Penzoil Indy Car for a few hot laps turning 1.12. Eddie Hill conjured up a lot of interest in his Airel Atom turning consistant 1.22 laps. Chuck White, Kevin Kunkel, Joe Henry, Wayne Twiehaus, Mike Stacey, and others were blistering up the track. Good Times were had for sure. Pictures are soon to follow. Clois |
see if this comes up?

Jim D's 289 FIA car with Weber's sounded sweet! http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...3/P1010891.jpg Parade laps are just as fun, especially if you are driving someone else's car like Paul P here. Notice the grin? http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...3/P1010892.jpg Ron F telling his captive audience about how he passed a Lotus (or maybe it was something else) http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...3/P1010893.jpg That last picture guys is why you go to track events. It wasn't about the trophies, winning money or having the best time. It was the camaraderie. Some of the most valuable information has been picked up during these table talk meetings. This is being done again in October, come on out. Run if you want, don't run....either way you will have a good time. Thanks to Clois for getting this together, the STL crowd had a blast. |
Thanks a lot Tim,
You and all your Gateway Cobra Club friends are an important part of this event. By the way would You, Ron and Mark mind slowing down a little in October so I can catch you! Good Grief, you guys were flying out there? Clois |

I did slow down, but you weren't on the track at the time ;) I think my and Mark's quickest time was 1:32 on Friday. Ron's was somewhere in the low 1:30 range. We're still learning, but looking forward already to October. Will have me some new slicks by then :D

Me too Tim,
Slicks make a car sooooooooooo much better. I remember when I went with slicks on my cobra how much better my times got. By the way Mike Bernhardt has a set of 17" slicks he bought for his Coupe that would not fit. Goodyears, 315-35 17 Rear and 275-40-17 front. The fronts wouldn't clear his fender wells. You might pick those up for a very good price if you are interested send me an email and I can send you his contact info. Clois |
The rears are too wide for my Factory Five. Will stick to what I have. A few more pics from the event:
