What is your favorite West Coast Road Race track?
We know all the racers are out there on the left coast. Let's hear about your tracks.

Laguna Seca is my all time fav, but PIR, (Portland) is beautiful. You forgot Seattle,(SIR), it's gorgeous too. The best thing about being out West, not counting CA., is once outside any city limits, the whole damn countryside is your race track.

Sears Point, when it's all in one piece, which it ain't right now, is a challenging, at times intimidating, course. Also, it's 15 minutes from my place! So, it gets my vote!

Laguna Seca gets my vote
Partly from hearsay and partly from experience, I voted for Laguna Seca. It is a technical 11 (12) turn track with lots of altitude change, blind turns and places like the "Andretti hairpin" and events like the Zanardi pass.
Add to that how fortunate I feel to have run in Vipers, formula Dodge and Cobras there and my passion for the place rises above the metal that I've left scuffed on the cement wall below the tire bridge. I've heard that the CART and Lemans drivers like the track too, even among the best in the world; so I feel like I have good company. Yep, It's gotta be LS! All the best! |
Toss up between Laguna Seca and Sears Point. Laguna is a flowing, beautiful, combination handling and power track. Sears is hugely technical, rewards style over setup. Both are in fantastic regions of the west for extra-curricular activities.

You need to add Buttonwillow and "The fastest road in the west" Willow Springs. My vote would have to be Laguna first, Willow second, and Sears Point third. |
Laguna Seca
I heard that NASA will be running at Laguna Seca on January 12-13, 2002. I am seriously considering trailering to Laguna, just concerned about the db's. I would like to meet up with some of you guys that run LS-

Without a doubt, Laguna!!!
Laguna 1st, the old Sears Point (with turn 5 ) 2nd, & Willow 3rd... All from a drivers stand point!!! From a spectator stand point, probably Willow 1st since you can see the whole track, Sears Point 2nd (from above turn 2 where the spotters are), & Laguna 3rd... IMHO:cool:

Portland noise

You mentioned Portland - certainly a beautiful track with vistas of Mt. Hood and St. Helens. It's got a great layout to boot. I'm curious as to the noise restrictions on club or open track events, When Trans-Am and ALMS ran there in August, TA had a db limit of 106. Zero tolerance. If you had a reading of 106.1 - black flag until it was corrected - even during the race! Fortunately, only the Viper had a problem in practice; everybody did their homework and some of the exhaust routing and exits were, well, creative to say the least! |
