MidAmerica Motorplex
America's newest race track is up and running! Several clubs were invited to the Media Day on Sunday, 11/11/2001, for a sneak peek at this 15-turn, 2.3 mile asphalt road course. The asphalt was finished on Thursday, November 8th, and we were invited to come "play" for free for a day to try out the new track.
Check out the web site at www.midamericamotorplex.com This track is located along I-29, 18 miles south of I-80, near Glenwood, Iowa. Future plans call for a 1/4 mile drag strip, and a couple of go cart tracks. The Mustang Club of Central Iowa is planning an open track weekend August 9-11, 2002 at MidAmerica. All Cobras, whether real or imagined, are welcome. We are still negociating a contract with the track, so stay tuned for more info. If you'd like to receive event info on the August open track weekend, email me at twosheds@dwx.com and I'll put you on our list to receive a flyer when they're done. |
Doug a little too far for us East Coast racers, but good to see a new track open up anyplace. Have fun out there and be carefull.

cranky,
We were warned that if we got too carried away Sunday, we'd be politely asked to leave. You see, the final grading was not completed yet, and any misjudgement of a corner would result in some serious off road adventure! Fortunately, only two guys dropped it off the pavement, and neither required any body work to fix. It still didn't stop us from exceeding 120mph on the main straight. We're still pinching ourselves out here in the land of corn and soybeans. Our closest playground, Heartland Park in Topeka, is 4 1/2 hours away. My favorite, Road America, is about 7 hours. So a real track 2 hours away is just too good to be true. |
There are some strong rumors of a track being built right here in Sopranoville at the Englishtown Raceway Park. A first class Drag race place but not too many Road Racers here in NJ so I don't know how much use a road course would get. I do know when they have car shows there at least 10 million NJ show cars on hand. Perhaps with a road racing track we could get 5-10 cars to show up.
Club Cranky Rules Englishtown Road Race facility;) mrmustang has all the latest on the "new" track.%/ McCranky:3DSMILE: |
Where abouts in Glenwood?
Doug,
Where abouts is the track located? I'm coming home for the Holidays and my Mom lives in Plattsmouth, NE right across the river from Glenwood. GO BIG RED!:3DSMILE: Gregg H |

The track is located along the west side of I-29, just south of the Glenwood exit. Take the Glenwood exit, go west, and turn south at the Amoco station. The track is a 1/2 mile or so south along the gravel road. You can't miss it. |
I can't wait to get to run at the new track!
I'll be there to run the SCCA MidDiv road races, and may even come out to an earlier "club" event to practice & set up my ITE car for the course! Yes, this really is GREAT news. I hate St. Louis, since it has been rebuilt into a "pretend" roadcourse on an oval :(........ It is nothing but a- "who brought the most HP-track) It is great to see another "true" roadcourse in this area, that will require actual driving skill to run up front. So now I can concentrate on running mainly at Heartland, Hallett, and MAM! |
