I owned one of these cars when new, worst car I ever drove in my life! I raced it once and then sold it. It was poorly designed, over weight and did not do anything well. Sales were bad and everyone lost a ton of money on them at the time including me. There were engine problems from the beginning both mechanical and electrical.

I was watching real Can-Am cars Porsche McLaren, and came across this series, it looked cool it the pictures I saw, it said they only had like 9 races and then it folded, I actually thought of you when I was going to post this, I figured you being in California you prob had your hand in it somehow...how much did the cars cost how much did you sell it for, it says most were sold to South Africans and still raced there...

I was working for Ford in Michigan when I bought the car. I had it assembled by a dealer in Kansas as I recall and raced it in Topeka at a national event.

I can't really recall what I paid, it was fairly cheap at the time maybe $45k and I sold it for 36k, numbers are probably off a little but directionally correct.

It was nothing like the real CANAM cars, I was used to Formula Atlantic cars that were fast, stopped well and had tremendous cornering power, what a disappointment. I was told that it was designed by essentially a mechanic
and it looked like it. Very poorly engineered with a terrible Weisman gear box that needed a complete blueprint to work correctly. I thought that since Shelby was involved it would be a good car and bought it without ever seeing one in person. My wife called it the white whale.
