New sanctioning body
I just read about a new racing league that was introduced yesterday at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Robert Wussler, former CBS Sports President (and originally Ted Turner's right hand man) introduced Team Racing Auto Circuit (TRAC) which (as I read it) is expected to rival CART and IRL. Wussler said they are "very close to a TV contract with a major network."
TRAC unveiled three prototype cars which appear to be variations of the Corvette, Mustang, and Viper. Engines will be 7 liters and FI (which means no restrictor plate issues I presume). The first race is scheduled for April 2003 with tracks in North Carolina, Atlanta, Vegas, Bristol, and Texas. Sounds to me like they are all Bruton Smith tracks so maybe this is his response to NASCAR in some way. For more info check the site. http://www.traczone.com/pages/news.asp I'm not an expert on roundy-roundy racing so maybe some of you experts may learn more about it, but there appears to be heavy hitters and lots of $ behind the effort. Stayed tuned!! |
They may not have restrictor plates, but alot of EFI cars in racing series are forced to run similar devices that cut power.
