I have to agree that this was a very cheap and dirty move. Last I heard though, Ferrari was under fire from the board for pulling this stunt off. Hopefully they will be scolded. Barichello has been having horrible luck this year (mechanically), and the one time he has it all sewn up management rips it apart. I still feel CART provides some of the best racing. Good mix of road, street, and oval courses. There is alot of competition, especailly now that Penske is out, and you can actually compete on a 20 million dollar budget, not 200+ million. The technology and drivers are amazing in F1, but I have to admit that they can be boring, especically recently.

F1 fan

I am a racing fan. From lawn mowers to powerboats. F1 is a fascinating technology exercise. The fact that team rules govern the outcome is not new but it does suck, still I love that screaming 19,000 RPM. Juan Pablo has had some interesting disruptive moments, that stuff isn't fixed but I'll agree those moments are few and far between. Anyone who has been near the fence at the start of a NASCAR race when 40 or so of those guys roar by at 190-ish and doesn't get wood probably ought to go home and wash his minivan. The fix is always in play when there's money on the line, sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.

We know that profession motorsports is heavily financed by the manufacturers and in this country and in Nascar in particular all three of the manufacturers are involved. So if you are running a series how do you keep all the players happy. You attempt to keep the competition equal. I think Nascar does a pretty good job in keeping the competition equal. The better prepared teams will always be out in front no matter which brand they are running. Did Nascar give Richard Petty a free pass when the president was there watching? Probably. Did the fans go home pleased? you bet your ass they did. Did Little E get a free pass last year? Probably. And again the fans went home happy, including me a Brand X hater.
Are the F1 Drivers better road racer than the Nascar drivers? In their little overpowered go-karts they sure are.
Are Nascar Drivers better high speed for 4-5hours in 150 temp. cockpits? They sure are because they do it every weekend 9 months a year.

It's all a show for the paying public, Nascar just knows how to put on a better show.

Fred,
You think turning left is so easy, you get you butt in one of those stockers at any of the driving schools around the country, and tell me when you get out how easy it is. It's about as easy as hitting a Homerun off of Roger Clemens.

Hey Racer,
You ask "Why the knock at NASCAR?" Who "knocked foist"--the Fuller Brush man? In the time-honored Ha Skoo manner, let me ask WHO STARTED BASHING WHO(M), eh? Since you are asking questions of me, here's a couple for youse: Is your vision of J. M. Fangio or Dan Gurney (both of whom raced Amurrican stock-cars) one of UNMANLINESS? How many NASCAR ("real") men have attempted F-1? How many original Cobras racing in the 1960's raced on left-turn only oval tracks? And finally why do you characterize my jocular petard-hoisting as "silly"? Why is my defense of F-1 and drivers characterized as "love" and "adoration"? Why is okay for you to gratuitously bash one of the OLDEST forms of auto-racing, but any rejoinder is inappropriate? Tennis must be boring to! H-m-m? Again WHO FARTED THIS ANYHOO? Pacis de nova vobiscum.

Y'OTTA be done!
Why'nt you git YOUR BUTT into an F-!? Huh? How's that fer mature? God, not only is NASCAR boring, apparently its adherents are, too. Or maybe just a tad puerile. Just assume, in the future, that if you derogate others SOME of us will shoot back. And, I might add, enjoy it also! By the way, how was the NASCAR school ride anyway? Bob in Conn. would no doubt inform you that the proper form is (as I demonstrated above)--"your butt", not "you butt"..)
Ciao for now, XXXXXX

AL, AL, AL
Guess that makes NASCAR...sponsor-controlled cars for the spectacularly limited? And that's an opinion...AL! Ar-ar-ar (Haven't re-mastered how to attach the smilies---so "Ar-Ar-Ar" will have to suffice). You funny is...and that's a relief! After jousting with "others" on this thread---I'm kinda reluctant to open me mail-box....AR AR AR [again]).

In the past I USED to get up at 4:30 AM to watch a F1 race - even though I knew it would be pretty damned boring.

Last Sunday I realized that I was done doing that.

Blah blah blah...
ANY big bore racing is fixed, to an extent. What offends apparently is when the fix becomes so obvious! NASCAR 'fixes' races thru manipulation of the cars, and certainly of cautions. F1 does it thru team orders, and has forever. Todt's justification in the Italian press--where he's been getting justifiably crucified--is that Rubens signed a contract with a clear cut definition of him as the #2 driver. Until Schuey wins his title, I suppose from this logic that Rubens doesn't get to win a race unless Mikey is either out or uncompetitive. Makes for a boring season. I wonder what the FIA will do here...they seem to make rules as they go anyway. Maybe they will take a look at NASCAR and see that if a point penalty were imposed, it would add some interest to the season. In reality, I think Schumacher could take 5 or 6 races off and still win the championship. Personally, I would rather see a RACE. And before anyone gets their panties in a wad, I am an F1 fan. I feel sorry for Rubens, but he signed the contract, and he is a big boy who can tend for himself.
