0-100-0 Road Tests including Cobras?
Club Cobra Members,
have any of you come across recent 0-100-0 road tests that included Cobras? I was just looking for clarification on the 13.2/13.8 earlier records on the Cobras from another thread, and found a recent Autocar test. One gent brought a hopped up Cobra to the Autocar test. The final car listed called a Stealth B6 ran 2/10ths off the McLaren F1 LM's world record at 11.73 seconds. Autocar runs this challenge every year. Something new and exciting always shows up. It would be cool to see a wicked-fast aluminum equipped Cobra show up to this challenge sometime with some huge brakes/tires! A few clips from the article at: http://www.racecar.co.uk/stealth/autocar1004.htm - "Cheng Lim brought his rumbling 637bhp RAM SC Cobra replica". (13.8) seconds". - "And then the Stealth was unwrapped, looking worryingly quick before it had even turned a wheel. This car’s first ever outing was when owner Davidson crawled into its goldfish-bowl cockpit, fired up the crackling 6.3-litre Chevy V8 and erupted down the mile straight. Making the most incredible cacophony — a violent barrage of gear whine, induction hammer and V8 roar — the Stealth very nearly drove into the record books on its first run". "A little later, once its brakes had been sorted, it eventually posted the following times: 0-30mph in 1.89sec, 0-60mph in 3.88sec, 0-100mph in 6.85sec and 0-100-0mph in (11.73sec). That’s faster than the halfmillion pound Porsche GT1 and only two tenths shy of the McLaren Fl LM’s all time world record. A pretty good result for a car you’ve never heard of, wouldn’t you agree?" by Ben Whitworth |
Duane - this year's "Autocar" tests here in the Uk saw the bar raised yet again, with the Pagani Zonda posting a time around 11.44 seconds, but even this was beaten by (from memory) a Caterham RS500 - which I think brought the time down below the 11.4 seconds mark.
Forgive me for any inaccuracies - this from memory, but I do know that the times this year were an improvement on last. Wilf |

Love that Zonda...!!
What a kool ride! I believe it goes for $500K, which is more than the Blonde will allow me to spend for a car, rightly %/ :p

Re: Pagani Zonda
Back in Black,
Thanks! I saw the Pagani Zonda at Laguna Seca 2/3 years ago during the Monterey Historics. They were releasing the new Saleen S7 that day, and this mysterious car kept driving around the pit area. It looks really futuristic in person. I kept wondering what it was. Now we know its as fast as it looks. |
Better yet Duane...next time we bring one thats Ford powered with some tires on it.
"First off the line was Lim’s mighty Cobra. It blasted away surprisingly cleanly, a brief squawk from its high-walled rear tyres drowned out by the growl from its 6.6-litre Chevrolet V8. Almost the instant the car was rolling Lim grabbed second gear, flames pouring out of its dustbin-sized side exhaust during the change up. Another tyre chirp as the Cobra hit third before Lim was hard on the brakes. It may have looked rough around the edges but the 1080kg Cobra wasn’t slow at all. It took just 7.7lsec to reach 100mph, and with a reaction time of 0.87sec and a further 5.22sec to bring the car to a halt it laid down an impressive gauntlet to the others, with a total time of just 13.8osec.
