Schedule changes

Added July 2,3 Watkins Glen

DanElam 12-30-2002 08:19 AM

Our Schedule too

We're still negotiating on some things, but this is what we are looking at for a schedule right now:

http://www.elams.org/Racing/2003/2003%20racing.htm

We'll certainly be at some of the Cranky events, but if we get stuff worked out we are seriously considering trying to get a Spec Cobra to qualify for the SCCA Valvoline Run-Offs. That means I may not get to help with PDA like I had hoped.

In any case, I look forward to seeing you guys at VIR. Any Crankoids want to volunteer to play pit crew for the Enduro? Harry Elam, Steve Marcus, and myself will be driving the #66 Cobra for the 300 mile race.

Is there a requirment of two roll bars at Watkins Glen? How about Summit Point? I've only got one bar right now, and don't want to put the second one in this year if I can avoid it.

I can't speak for Watkins Glen, but for NASA at Summit the current rules say that you can run with one roll bar. The catch is that you can't have an instructor which means you have to qualify for - and run - in Advanced. You learn a lot faster with an instructor in the car, so I would really encourage you to think about the second bar.

Steve,
As far as I know you can run at the Glen with PDA with a single hoop but I would check with Joe Casella as he runs the PDA show at the Glen.
Last Year we still had Instructors in Cobras with one hoop.

Cranky:)

DanElam 12-31-2002 03:38 PM

Really?

Really? The general rule of thumb is that instructors won't ride unless they have the same level of protection as the driver. Most instructors will give some lee-way on the seat belt, but rarely the hoops.

Dan,
I like to instruct the first timers. Most of them are very timid about really running hard their first time out. It is the guys that have run a couple of years in the Cobra that make me nervous. I can usually tell by half a lap if my student is going to get us in trouble. If he scares me I'm outta there.
Somebody came up with a good line a few years ago regarding first time students and I always use it. " Don't try to impress me cause you can't and don't try to scare me cause I already am".

See you at the track,

Thanks Cranky. Looking forward to seeing the Club at Valley Forge. But don't fear, it won't be all food and sitting around. We're working on planning a cruise route (or two) for those who want to take some rides. The area we chose also has a huge open field for football or whatever (no doughnuts  :JEKYLHYDE ).
