Which racing seats
I am considering ordering a pair of racing seats and was wondering if anyone has a preference and why. Which model did you choose and what vendor did you go through. I am looking at the Kirkey as well as something like the Cobreau Forza seats. Neither will be period correct but I want a little more support at the times I am racing.

I put a Kirkey 20* layback in for R&G. I think it gives me better feel for what the tires are doing because it conforms so tightly to the body. It is so much of an improvement over the stock seat that I can't bring myself to put the stock seat back in for the street. The street/roadrace seats I looked at didn't have that "glove-like" fit that I'm accustom to from the stockcar seats. Scott |

I also went with the Kirkey 20 degree layback seats. They fit tight and are reasonable, about $170$ as I recall. See you soon. Keith |

I have had the Kirkey Road race seat for years. Great for the track not so great for extended seat time on the street. It all depends on how much built in seat cushion you might have.;) Cranky |
I use Ultrashield seats manufactured right here in Texas and really like them. I have used Kirkey's before but feel that these new seats fit me better and seem to be stronger.

I ran a Cobra Imola (kevlar) in my SPF. Not anywhere close to period, but I agree with the other posts that the benefit while driving was worth the trade-off in looks. The Cobra was pretty expensive (over $500), but I have always liked having FIA certified seats in my race cars, and it was comfortable enough to drive around in.

We may be talking about the same animal here, but I'd recommend the Kirky Basic Drag seat. I've used these on two race cars, one of which demanded the seat be secured directly to the floor pan to give adequate head space for me, a tall driver. The more important factor however, is that the Basic Drag doesn't have side wings that are so large as to be a factor in catching a shift, like the wider winged seats do. Once you bang your elbow on a side wing with a hard 1st to 2nd shift you'll know of what I speak.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner but I have felt like a junk yard dog chassing his tail lately. Milk crates are a good name for the horribly uncomfortable seats that came with my kit. But the truth is that whilst on a road course I have to hang on to the steering wheel so tight to keep my body from lateral movement I find that my turns are not as smooth as they should be. At least that was the justifacation I used on my wife. Clois |
