Wink Mirror?

Anyone put one of these wide mirrors on their cobra for better visibility during track events?

I hav also seen a curved mirror from Longacre. Anyone used one of these?

Preferences? Mounting advice?

Thanks,

Yes! And it helps too!

Clois,

How did you attach said mirror?

Karl Bebout 08-19-2004 01:04 PM

So, I suppose you're wanting a BIG rearview mirror so you can see all those FORD Powered cars trying to catch up?

ItBites 08-19-2004 04:07 PM

Karl,

Its funny how they almost look like they're going the other way as they shrink in the mirror.

Maybe them having the motor in backwards has something to do with it? :)

I think I'll duck now!

I mounted one the way the factory suggests ie, glued to the windshield, and it blocks too much forward visibility, and shakes so bad, that I can't see anything in the rear, either!!

Hey bigmike,

Don't worry, if the glue is like anything we have
used on mirrors for our pickup trucks, it will fall
off real soon.

Dunno about the Longacre. I have one in the SM but the mounting brackets are made to attach to the overhead roll bar. Not sure that they make brackets for any other type installation.

Mirrors are a waste of time. i am too busy worrying about what's in front of me, without getting concerned about who's in back that i've already passed.

HI Cobra 08-22-2004 12:16 AM

I have found mirrors to be real useful in
traffic to make sure some policeman hasn't
snuck up on me on a bike or an unmarked
car and is lurking me. This is especially
true when I am driving something other than
my Cobra and the habit has stayed with me
and saved me more than once. :D

What'saCobra? 08-23-2004 11:53 AM

i've never had any policemen sneak up on me on the track so far, but i will keep a look out and appreciate your suggestion.

I can't figure out how to mount my 5 panel Wink mirror on my Spec Racer - so I did the next best thing and bought a SPA lightweight convex rearview mirror. Great visibility!

Anybody need a Wink mirror? :)

MistressMotorsports 10-31-2004 12:42 PM

I found a clip on convex mirror at Pep Boys for about $15. It was about twice as wide as a normal rear view mirror. Clipped onto the dash mounted rear view mirror on my SPF without any trouble. The extra weight made the mirror vibrate a little, but not enough that it hampered the view. By mounting it low, forward visibility was not affected. On my enclosed race cars, I have always used full width Wink mirrors.

Like Mike, I have wink mirror on enclosed race cars, but I am in Randy's camp when it comes to the Cobra and use a conex mirror. I like it much better. One advantage is that it is a little bit higher than the wink mirror which helps since you sit lower in the Cobra and rear visibility is a little compromised.

For what it is worth, I did try placing a wink mirror on the Cobra and decided it didn't work for me.
