Estimating Quarter Mile times. (Bench Racing)
i have been having trouble estimating my quarter mile time's and was hoping that you guys might be able to help me out. Every formula that I have puts it in the high 9's which can't be right but I would like to get a estimate of what it might possibly do with the way it is setup.
Currently it weights ~2400 pounds with driver and extra cage bracing. this is a general estimate on the car it could be off by ~75 pounds in one direction or the other direction. I only have the weight of the car when it had a 454 in it so I am extrapolating. On full boost I am good for ~525-550 hp depending on the air and the carb tuning, rear end is a quick change so assume that I could get perfect gearing. rear end will take up to a 14 inch slick, (I have ~6 of them mounted in the garage) and hold the power quite nicely. Power goes through a T-10 4 speed. Getting the power to the ground is going to be a challange, I know for a fact when the car had the larger pully it ran ~125 in the quarter without abusing the tires or clutch, simply driving off the line at idle and then reving it up so what do you guys think it will do. I am guessing ~10.7-11.1 but I don't have the skills to drive that fast or the safty equipment so it is all relative. |
I've completely lost faith in the drag race "numbers" generated by several different math methods.
My car to is consistently in the 9's. MAYBE, on a really GOOD day, with a perfect launch and slicks etc. I'd be into the 10's, but I doubt it! 667 horse, 2700 pound, 4 speed, 3:31 rear gear, 26.5" "Sticky" bias BIG letter Goodyears. 11.90 and 121.27 with a very modest 2 sec 60 ft time. I'm thinking at BEST I could reach high 10's. 9's aint gonna happen! The drag race "math" must assume absolute perfect conditions, which aren't "real world". EDIT (thanks Ron for clearing that up): "My car to is consistently in the 9's." Using the MATH it is, fast as hell "bench racing" numbers! 11's in the real world. |
Hey Ernie,
If your car is consistantly in the 9s, why would on a good day with a pefect launch and everything just perfect would it be in the 10s? Do you plan to let me drive it !!  Ron :D  :JEKYLHYDE |
So we have about the same hp/weigt numbers. I am just going to say high 10's on a perfect day then. I know that I can bea 121 i nthe quarter for the ending speed.
Well i have my answer now I have to decide if I want to pull the mosnter motor and put something a little bit more streetable into it. |
