I have A johnexx MotorSports Cobra,with a All aluminum 427.
Suspension: The rear is a 4 link adjustable with panhard bar and ford 9". The front suspension is Mustang II with adjustable coilovers. So how do I set up the suspension? Guy :) :) :) |
I'm not joking when I say books are written about suspension set ups for all types of racing. Might look at the rules and classification (like the SCCA) for your car first. That may tell what you can or can't install depending on who's rules you run under.

Suspension set up
Yes, there are books ... but there are many factors involved with setting up suspension. It is being set up to do what ?? street, track ( which track ?) road race or drag race.

Anti sway bars front and back are a must for a car that plows like the Çobra on a AutoX course. Also, forget AutoXing the car if it doesn't have LSD. You'll probably be in with the Vette ZO6 and the Lotus Elise. They're tough to beat on short windy courses like an Autox.
First off, you should get the corner weights of the car fairly equal or close to from L to R. Tires are also pretty important in relation to suspension setup. Negative camber (up to 1.5 degrees) may be desireable, and 0 toe up front and 1/8 out in the rear.(this would be too darty on the street) Drive the car and try different settings. Keep a log, and foremost, have lotsa fun. |
Unless you have the necessary equipment to properley set up your car take it to a shop that specializes in track setups.Once you have the car properly aligned,balanced with correct corner weights, bump steer corrected, then you can hit the track and start taking notes.No shop can set your car up to perform perfectly the first time out, it requires patience and lots of tweaking. But you do need a base to start from and that you can get from a quality road race shop.
