Extrudehone
Has anyone used them and do you have any before & after numbers?
|
I haven't looked into them for over a decade. At that time, the amount of increase for the $$ involved made any number of aftermarket parts a better choice, I doubt that has changed. Well it probably has somewhat, there are many more choices in the aftermarket than at that time. IMHO the only reason to use extrudehone, is rules that require a stock intake. I recall at one time you could purchase a nice new Cobra F.I. intake for what it cost to have your stock one done and the power increase didn't come close to what the bolt-on gave. The process was originated when there were fewer choices, but I think it now has limited applications, at least for anyone that wants some big HP increases.

Ford was at one time using them to increase flow for manifolds used on OEM SVT vehicles.

Porting can ruin a set of heads as easily as it can improve them. It is best done by an experienced professional, as opposed to forcing an abrasive compound through the ports under pressure. Just my opinion.

I went to the factory this past spring for 3 days to do some test work on textile parts...I cannot vouch for how it works on intakes and such.. But I gotta tell you what.. I never saw so much Indy car stuff on the shelves in all my life.. They do every freeking thing you can think of. Inside ofHeaders, Intakes, heads.. anything with a hole in it they were squirting stuff through. Lots of Nascar stuff.. And the finish.. as the women say.. It was to die for.
I think if you want to get 10/tenths out of your stuff.. it would be worth it. But it may not be worth it for the street guy. Heck.. they even did the inside of brake lines, oil lines. |
