0-60 MPH times (I know, I know)
I know, another time question, but with the snow on the ground and the 15 degree temps, I need something for a little motivation. I's sure some here have close to the equivalent of mine- or what it will be anyway. Im curious as to what a realistic 0-60 MPH time would be for my car. Also, I know there are alot of variables, but i'm just looking for a realistic time.
SVC Cobra- approx. 2600# (according to SVC) 390 FE, 400-420 HP WR 4sp toploader 9" rear w/ 3.50 gears Also, the clutch and type of tires are obviously important. Although undecided on particulars, the clutch will be worthy, and the wheels/tires will be 17" with modern "performance" type compound. Any ideas on realistic times? Thanks, Greg |
I don't speed but I recorded my 0 -55 @ 2.3 sec.

OK, what transmission and rear end are you running?
Nobody else? Man, I thought i'd get a few responses anyway. I was just wondering if 4.0 seconds is realistic, or what? Thanks, Greg |

Here are a couple of links to performance calc sites. They don't take into account the gearing and tires, so I think the results are a little optimistic. :o

Hey blue, I have a 390fe w/ 411 rear end and 4 spd toploader (wide/close i don't know?). I don't know the HP or torgue either but it seems like me counting 1001 and 1002 and I'm there at 60. Of course I count slow. All the way through 1st gear and the a short time in 2nd bam 60 mph. Very inaccurate I know but thats all I got right now. It's always fun till your going fast then it gets a bit more interesting. Always play safe.

If you tried a 0 - 60 mph run on a normal road with, sea level, 12 inch rollout on decent tires and to include a good 1 to 2 shift you'd probably see around high 3s to low 4s. You'd probably knock off a half second at the drag strip if the track was prepped. If you had no shift before 60 mph you could knock off another .2 to .3 seconds.

I'm no "race car driver", but the one time I did time it 0-60 . . . 2.8 sec. I through those pants away:JEKYLHYDE

At the strip I run a 1.4 60' time which comes out to 58 mph. According to the one calculator above inputting my 1/8 time and mph it comes out to 1.81 0-60

Those calculators for the drag strip are pretty fun. I came out with a 2.3 0 - 60 for a 1.7 60 ft and a little over 104 mph at the 1/8.
Here's a G-tech reference with a standard 12 inch rollout for a few cars I tested on a normal roadway. These are realistic times for good drivers with average traction on an average road. 0 to 60
I had to call a couple of guys to check the facts. But as best we can remember:
Three years ago Coach was going to swap his 5.0 EFI for a carb'ed 408. I asked him if he had check the 0-60 time before he pulled the 5.0. He said he had not. He call Jeff and they took a GTECH to a back road at a local industrial park. Coach @ 170 lb., Jeff @ 185 lb., FFR with hard top and a trunk full of stuff about 2500 lb., Wed night in Jan. cold but I don't remember how cold, below 50 degrees, Kumho tires (not a good choice for a Cobra) lots of wheel spin, even in hot weather. 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 to 4.8 seconds. Coach was mad because FFR advertised something like 3.6. I reminded him of the tires, cold weather and extra weight. The next day they swapped the motors. He never checked the 408, but it was a lot faster. He did buy better tires. He sold the FFR and built a Hurricane with a KC 428 stroker 461 ci with 601 HP. Here is a picture of the stuff in the trunk of Coach's FFR. I'm guessing 70 lb of tools, water, antifreeze, oil, cloths, everything you need for a cross country trip.:LOL:
