run n gun gearing

what are the run n gun cobras using for gearing, tires, rpm and mph down the front stretch?

That is really too generic of a question for an old Runngunner to answer. too many variables. Please include more data...engine size, hp, stroker or not, tranny gearing, rear gearing, etc. Every cobra that runs at Run N Gun is different for a reason. I know that the guys would really like a JBL to run there. Richard being the guru that he is can give you a lot of pointers.

i figured as such, but let's keep it simple. i'm not changing anything on the jbl, just was wondering on the road course what the max rpm at what mph in what gear was being used down the front stretch. for instance.

Hitting my rev limiter

vector1 I have a 5spd with 1-1 5th gear and 3.31 rearend gearing. I have 335/35 17" tires on the back of the car. I hit the rev limiter at 6,000 rpm about 200ft before the start finish line. I don't have time to look at the speedo. Guessing in the 120 range. Some guys are in the 140's Like Dean, Morris and Randy S. They are also turning alot more RPM than me. Rick L.

thanks rick, that is what i was looking for. the calculator says you are doing 140, so if liftoff occcurs at 145 you are almost there. make sure you wear your waterwings and diaper:)

Victor,

I am running 3:50 rear gears with 26.5" slicks and a toploader transmission. I have been clocked at 130+ at about 6800 RPMS on my 427. I also run out of gear just after the start finish line but to soon to start tapping the brakes. My best combination of gears might be to go down to a 3:31 gears and probably a TKO 600. I can't go any bigger with my tires.

I can't remember having a JBL at Run n Gun in some time. I hope you decide to come this year.

Not going that fast Vector

Vector1 I am not going that fast. I have been at 140 on my bikes, the cobra with the big paxton scoop starts to lift in the 120's. 140 I could take off. No diaper, I like the autocross most. I'm not a speed junkie anymore.%/ I know my limits and don't abuse them. Accidents happen, I have spun out twice going into turn 1 at gateway. Was lucky and didn't hit anything.:o I didn't temp faith any more. I spend more time working on other cars now. Last year was a Hersh's GT-40 with a starter problem and Deans sway bar bushing repair. The best was a Lew Paine rack problem that we took his car to GY for a rack and alignment. This is the best group of people I have meet at any event so far. Hope you make it this year. I have one thought for you, after 3-4 days of racing every one is just happy going home in one peice. A $15.00 trophy is not worth destroying a $40-80,000.00 dollar car. Nobody expects this to happen but it can.%/ Rick L.

i'd like to make it. i was going to get the car done over winter, then spring, then summer, run n gun, next spring, etc. tko600 just arrived, decent deal, was supposed to be .82od, turned out to be .64. kid made an honest mistake and i know he doesn't have the money to refund so i was curious if anyone was reaching for 5th.

Clois Harlan 04-29-2008 08:32 AM

I don't think anyone makes it to 5th. If so it would be very quick. The only place I could have used a 5th gear was at Road America and the straight aways on the front and going into Canada Corner are considerably longer than any other place I put my car on the track (Road America is 4.14 mile road course...I think).

Several of the cars that come to Run n Gun run the .64 5th gear.
