anybody use a hans device in the cobra or have experience with it
looking at alt. of mounting high back seat vs. what is in there now and was looking at the hans device.
other than the price:eek: it seems to be a good alternative. the guy must have a patent on it and the insurance is prob not cheap but sheez! anybody using one or have experience? |

Please disregard the price,..... and get a high quality devise. With the sprint car, it took me a long time to get used to one but, when I went tumbling down the back stretch at over 100 mph, I thank God I had one ! ;)

hans makes a cheaper one. little heavier than the carbon one but if you're out on thee track for 20-30 min. it's fine. any longer and you might think about the lighter one. i like mine. use it in drag car too.

We just moved the mounting points of our shoulder harnesses so we could use a Hans Device in our track car. I looked at several others, but the simple fact the Hans is well proven made my decision. I went with the lower cost "Sport" model from the good people at Simpson Racing (www.TeamSimpson.com) since they are an approve Hans retailer.

I have not tried one yet, but as of 2010, at my home track, any one of three approved devices will be required....Right now on race day we probably average 75 cars and probably less than 20 wear a Hans, I wear a "dollar collar"....
I've spoken with a few guys and some love them and some hate them, the ones that hate them say is reduces your side to side movement/vision too much and they can't get used to that.... No doubt it is the safest thing out there right now.... I'll find out in Jan. 2010................ David |
There's another device on the market. It's like a HANS, but uses hydraulic cylinders instead of straps. It allows greater range of motion, and doesn't snap back. Supposedly safer and easier to use.

My friend who vintage races an original USRRC cobra uses a HANS. I would suggest getting the kit that extends the range of motion though. We had an incedent where he was not able to see a car that was on his right rear corner. He thought he was there but when he turned to look he was unable to turn his head enough to verify. Because of this he held and an outside line and got into the marbles and spun. Luckily no harm done except a brake scoop but the lesson was certainly learned. The extended kit was ordered the next day.
The problem with the cobras is that the visibility in the mirrors is so limited. Usually with only a drivers spot mirror and a centrally mounted mirror. Leaves the RR area vulnerable to blindspots. |
