location of remote oil filter
Does anyone have any suggestions on the locatoin of the remote filter. I'm looking at the upper crossmember in front of the engine. I'm afraid if I mount it on the left side it will interfere with the steering u-joint.Will it be in the way of anything on the right side?Anyone with it mountes somewhere else? Thanks Richie

The original location is on a bracket off the front of the water pump that goes between the pump and the OEM filter mount. On FEs, in ERAs, Kirkhams and CSXs at least, it's not in the way of anything there.
I'm not sure if that will work on a small block or in your engine compartment, but it's what you want to attempt if originality or original looks are in any way important to you. Surely there must be an SB variant of the bracket out there...? |
This is a 390 same on the 427 car I did, I don't know if it helps but may give you an option. I had to make the bracket but the housing was bought at finishline.

Richie:
I made a plate and mounted it to the upper crossmember. Then mounted the oil filter mount to it. On the other side of the mounting plate I mounted the oil thermostate for the oil cooler. Worked out fine and easy to get the filter off and on. Look in my pics. Jim |
Check page 3 in my gallery. I used a 3/8" aluminum plate and some 1" aluminum round stock for spacers to mount it to the front of the head above the fuel pump. Make sure the bottom of the oil filter clears the fuel pump when it has to be removed.
