Gatlinburg

Just got back from Gatlinburg/PigeonForge area. My buddy lives there and he was telling me they have 2 rod runs there one in the Spring the other in late Summer. He also thought there was a Cobra run there. Has anyone been there for any of these events if so how were they? Update on car, rolling chassis is done ready for motor and trans. Hope to set the body by next weekend. Wanted to set it this weekend just too much going on.
Dave
PS:
This build is too much fun, if you're thinking about doing one go for it!!!!

trans problems

I'm having a heck of time coming up with the right combo for my bell housing. I'm using a tko 600 with a 351w block. The engine builder got everything I needed for the clutch. WRONG the bellhousing was a Lakewood 15205 fit th block but not the trans, not even close. So I called Lakewood, no you need a 15200, lines you great on both. With one small problem, the clutch fork pivot is now on the starter side UGH. So I called Summit back tonight, they said a different Lakewood fork was needed. So I'm working this weekend again but a friend of mine is running to Summit for me so I can have the part when I get off work. I promise I'll post some pics asap! This would be fun except for the parts not being called out properly!!!Dave

motor mounts

Ok guys,
Got motor and trans in chassis. Here's my new question. When I measured after I drilled and bolted the motor in place, I'm 24" on the passenger side. Not sure how I moved it that far back. I measured Like Roscoe said to the first header bolt and I'm 16 1/4 instead of 15 3/4. Is this going to cause any problems fitting the body?

Dave:
I just checked my motor (351W) location.
The first header bolt on the passenger side is 15-3/4" from the closest edge of the upper crossmember. The centerline of the water pump pulley is 9-1/2" from the top of the lower crossmember.
With the body in place there is 6" clearance from the back of the passenger side head to the firewall.
What might be more of a problem for you is that with my motor in the current position the headers are very close to being centered in the area between the footbox and the inner fender well. On the passenger side there is 1-1/4" from the header to the footbox wall. It seems that you will fit depending on the bends of your headers but you will need some kind of heatsheilding on the footboxes possibly. Or you might need to get the headers rebent a bit.

Somebody needs to organize an annual national Cobra event there every year. Its a beautiful place, nice people, lots of lodging and some incredible roads in all directions.

Finally

Set the body on to measure the header to footbox all is good. The headers fall right down the center!!! So back on track, I think we should get something together for Gatlinburg I really like it there a bunch to see and do. Plus the casino is across the mountain in NC.... I'm in!!!

update

The body is on and the side pipe cut outs are done WOW do not ever want to do that again!!!! It is really starting to look like a car getting excited. I had to get a different radiator started out with a 28" wide which fits the bracket fine, then you set the body on no way. The inner fender well are molded into the front air dam. This is only 26" wide I talked to Joe about notching out so it would fit. He said it had never been tried and wasn't sure if the notching would affect the strength of the front end support. We talked about boxing in for support. I'm not into being a guinea pig, so I ordered a 26" today. I also checked on a rod run in Gatlinburg, April 12th through the 15th. I just wonder what the weather is like that time of year.
