help for aligment settings
Hello,
I called A&C to have the setting for the wheel aligment, they said: "take the ones from a Ford Mustang II 76-78"...okayy but searching the net all day I found this: camber: +0.5° caster: +3° toe in: +0.5° and I'm not so sure about the positive camber!! Do you confirm? thanks |
I've gotten pretty good at setting alignment using some simple "toe plates", tape measure, and a bubble caster/camber gauge. I run my race car (spec racer ford) at -3.5 degree camber, 0 caster, and +1/8 toe out up front.
I have changed my cobra to -2 camber and +1/8 toe out up front. Much much better handling, but I do take mine to the race track for HPDE. No way would I run positive camber though |
I do my own alignment, front and rear. So I get to try a lot of different settings to see what works and what doesn't.
For camber, you don't need much on the street. Go for -0.25* to -0.50*. Caster depends on whether you have power steering or manual, and how much wheel/ spring rate you have. High wheel rates tend to make the car "twitchy", and it wants to follow ruts and tracks. Adding more caster will help make the car more stable. Of course, that also requires more effort to pull the steering off center and keep it there. With manual steering and low wheel rates, about 2- 2.5* of caster works pretty good. With power steering and high wheel rates, 5-6* of caster works well. A little bit of toe in goes a long way. I use 1/32" total. Track settings are considerably different. Your mileage may vary. |
