How many times did you all remove/replace the body during assembly?
Been doing some strategizing here on my build when I get the car.
It`s already a rolling chassis so, there`s still quite a bit left. (I don`t even have my engine, trans or wheels yet) :JEKYLHYDE Anyways, how many times did you all set the body on the frame, measure something, take the body back off, set the body back on, realize something had to be cut, remove the body, etc, etc, etc. I spoke with Joe at A&C and he said the body is about 450lbs. Being I`m pretty much a solo act, I`m just wondering how often I`ll have to "recruit" help with the body. |
You will have to remove the body a few times. I fastened a 2 X 6 to the rear bulkhead of the cabin and clamped another 2 X 6 to the steel hoop under the cowl. I trimmed the top of the 2 X 6's to match the curve of the body. Then I fastened a 2 X 4 between the 2 X 6's running down the centerline of the body. I was able to lift the body by myself with my cherry picker and a nylon strap. It worked great.

I was thinking of doing something similar. How did you fasten the 2X4 to the 2X6`s? Lag bolt? 3" deck screws? |
For the repeated effort involved it may be worth investing in a ceiling mounted cable hoist like this one: https://www.northerntool.com/shop/to..._420551_420551
Lift it up and leave it elevated while you work on the car, then lower when you're ready to re-fit / test. |
I actually had to go downstairs to look at the boards to see how they were fastened together (yes, I still have them after nearly 20 years.) The board on the bulkhead was fastened with wood screws. The front board with c-clamps. The crossboard was 2 2x4's screwed together and was long enough to tuck under the other boards and were held in place with wood screws.

So far i havent had to take the body off since i set it down. The only problem i had was i had to remove the radiator and headers that i had already installed prior to setting down the body.

Since I did a custom side-impact roll cage that below the doorline and rear trunkline of the car, and custom footwells, I'm guessing probably between 100-150 times.

I took it off at least three times.
Once I set the body with the tires I put in a coupe of large pop rivets for alignment once I was satisfied. You could use Clecos as well. So when you take it off you can put it back in the same place. |
