Body and paint questions for an A&C

I'm ready to put the body on the frame for the first time, but was wondering what is a good material to put on the frame before placing the body on and how thick should it be?

I also was wondering when is it best time to paint the body? I still have to cut for the side pipes, quick jacks and roll bar. I'm not sure if I should put the body on and cut out all the items and then take the body off the get painted or mount the body on the frame and paint the body while on the frame.

I would mount the body first so you can adjust and fit the doors... then assemble the rest of the car. Take it for a ride and make sure it’s sorted out the way you like. Then dis assemble and send it off for paint. less changes and less work after paint!

I used rubber mat cut into strips and glued to the top of the rails. The mat for mine is thin, less than 1/8" thick and can be found at most flooring supply places.
