T5 Tranny

What do you guys think about a T5 in a 480hp cobra? I'm also looking at The Tremec 3550 ,I know the Tremec is stronger but more money. Is it really worth it if I can get a good deal on a T5 and I'm not planning on taking it to the strip and ripping on it every weekend . I just ordered my car from sonny at A&C and I'm starting to get things lined up for the rest of the car. Let me know if any of you have any thoughts on the subject.

I've had a T5-Z behind my 408W Stroker for two years and no problems!!

I don't beat it to death or drag race but I've run it pretty hard with fat BFG's on the rear......The key is not to miss third and the fact that the tires will break loose in a light car before the "Terminal" torque numbers are reached??

Do it.....BTW, you can have a T5-Z built to stand about anything you can put in front of it!! If it should break you can do that and save the $$$'s you would spend on the 3550??:3DSMILE:

DcobraH,
I'm not sure where in PA Connellsville is, but if it's near Valley Forge, come on out and take a look at my car.

I've got a 351W in my Cobra using a T5. It's probably about 375hp+- and 400lb/ft. of torque. From what I'm told, that's probably the limit. Maybe the World Class or T5-Z could handle what you want.

I just bought a Mustang with a Tremec 3550 in it, and the cars' purpose will be open track days. I've done a lot of research on it, and am told that it is a really beefy transmission. So if you're planning on driving the car hard, you may want to look into it.

Remember that these cars are light. The T-5 specs are for cars weighing in at over 3k

For a street trans, the close ratio (2.95 low) T5-Z is hard to beat! The gears are just right for a 3.55 diff car, and it shifts like a Honda.

Bought mine new from Liberty transmissions. It was blueprinted, and had the .73 OD gear insalled. It's a better cruise OD than the stock .62. Trashed the factory shifter in favor of a positive stop Hurst, and filled it wih Moble 1 synthetic ATF. 15,000 miles behind a stout 351W with no problems.

Keep in mind, that Ford didn't equip any factory car with the close ratio box, so even if you have a used T5, it will need uprading with all he new "Z" parts and replacement shifter.
