FootBox Problem?

When the shop rebuild my motor and installed the motor, the drivers side collector contacts the footbox. Am I in danger of the fiberglass melting or catching fire.? Before I had about an inch between collector and footbox. Either way, its a real hot footbox.

Thanks

You must use some sort of reflective insulation to keep the heat of of the fiberglass. The close proximity of the collector will cook the resin out of the fiberglass and it can ignite. And it's not pretty.

That's what I'm afraid of. I guess its time to cut a chuck out of the footbox. Guess I'll get to cutting. I'm planning to put Thermo-Tec along the firewall, footboxes and more or less around tranny. Its pretty tough to do AFTER you put it togeather.

Thanks

The first question to ask is why is the motor in a different spot? Did they use different motor mounts? If the headers moved it's likely everything else did as well. It may just be the trans is kicked over in the back and needs to be aligned better. This could cause other problem with drive line alignment and linkages.

Check and see if they have the headers swapped....it's easy to do...and it would cause the problem you're describing....

You posted this under the Antique & Collectibles forum, yet your screen name info lists that you have a Shell Valley???

If it's an A&C and you're running a SBF, if you followed the engine mount installation correctly, you should have loads of clearance between the headers & footbox. If you don't, then you installed the engine mounts to far to the rear and you'll have to relocate them.
