Roll Bars
I am considering making my own Stainless Steel Rollbars for my A&C Cobra. I have access to a bender and was just wondering if anyone else has done this before. What schedule or wall thickness of Steel pipe or tube is to be used? Does anyone have the measurements for all the componets of the rollbar and the mounting brakets? Any info would be appreciated guys. Thanks

Hi Thirty,
I've got a stainless bar from Finish Line and it measures 1.5" O.D. with a wall thickness of 0.185". The mounting hardware is a combination of weld on frame brackets from Everett-Morrison, and home made bar to frame pieces. The bar is 14" high measured from the center of the bar to the body. I took this measurment from a CSX4000 series car, if you are 6'6" you may want to go higher.....or end up 5'10" in the event of a roll over. :) Good Luck! Jon Miller |
Ok, here are my measurements:
Top of the roll bar to the body is 13 ½ inches. I am six foot one. I have seen roll bars higher and much lower. Unless you have historical reproduction as your goal the height will be a personal preference. Tube is 1 ¾ inch (4.5 cm?) I am trying with the metric here. This seems to be an odd size for grommets to cover the hole in the body. I ended up making my own from aluminum. You can see a pic in the thread I started when I was installing my roll bar. Center to center of vertical bars is 12 ½ inches (35 cm) The angle is about 70 degrees for center post, but this is not accurate. Plan where you want to attach the roll bar to the frame and adjust your measurements. The brackets that adjust to the roll bar dimensions and fit/attach to the frame are flat plates with pipe welded on, there is a threaded hole in the pipe for a set/locking bolt to hold the roll bars in the brackets. Sorry I have no pics of the brackets. My tranny is down, all locked up, can't even get it in neutral. I am scrambling to get it repaired before I miss the little bit of good weather we are affforded here in Upstate New York. Glad to hear you are making progress. |
Roll Bar grommets
Not sure which grommets you are going to use on your roll bar. I noticed that Finish Line has the crome grommets for $60.00 bucks, anyone seen them at a lower price??

Had to get the C-4 serviced. 2nd gear band all seized up and out of adjustment. That scream you heard was my wallet. Back on the road.
