I can't believe this

Hi everyone: I am so excited. I just found this forum. I have own my AC Cobra frame for alittle over a year now. This weekend i am going to AC to pickup my body. What i have is a 1964 ford 427 out of a Thuderbolt. Picked it up in Kentucky last summer. Block, Crank, and Balance only. Picked up the rest of the parts here and there. Rear end is 355 gears. Trans is a 4sp toploader. I have been alone on an island building my dream. Mind you Joe has been just the best.

Hi Automan,
Congrats. I just sold my A&C last year. Great car if built right. It's even a good track car if set-up for it. There are a few A&C owners here and they will be glad to help if needed. There is an A&C forum here at CC as well. My gallery shows the entire A&C build if you start at the last page and go forward. Good luck with your build and hope to see you around CC.

Welcome to the club. I am about 75% done my Frankenstien (Midstates rolling chassis with a Gel coat A&C body. This group is always there when you have question. Good luck with your build.

If you were smart you would put all those parts back into that Thunderbolt, unless it was just totally beyond all hope. The Thunderbolt would probably be worth two, maybe three replicas.

Thunderbolt

Yea, i have to agree. But i bought the engine on its own. Body of the car long gone. 20 years ago. Engine had been in grease and a garbage bag when i bought it. Anyway. She is finished and mounted on my frame. Its got two 4bbls on it. 750 Hollies. off course the same year.
Just found out something that i didn't realize. The AC body doesn't have the side pipe openings. Mine are already mounted. I was thinking on putting some 4x4 pieces of wood on the frame and dropping the body on that. Then seeing exactly where the cut out should go, marking it, and then cutting it out. Then continue on with the body install. How does that sound.

I can't believe this. I have your site already saved under my favorites and i have used it for information many times. i found it through a serch of the web 6 months ago. You sir have a nice car. I am also going to paintmy car later after i have ran it for a few miles. I guess i will see it tomorrow but like you said, i cant believe that the finish looks this good without paint. Thankyou so much for all your help from your site.

Automan.

You'll find that you will probably have to take the body off and on several times to get everything cut just right. Just make sure you leave at least 1/2" gap between the body and pipes.

Automan:

Where is your Island?

Are your side pipes (2) piece design?
If they are take off the muffler side part, then drop the body down and project straight lines to the body area using the header pipes as the angle guide. Then cut and fit. That's what I did.
By the way, an air powered mini sawsall is the best tool to cut the body, then finish with powered sanding discs, you'll find a Dremel kit to be a life saver.
Don't forget to use a good masking tape over the Gel Coat when you make you cuts and large drilled holes. Start into the gel slowly until you get into the glass.
You will find the A & C body thickness incredibly thick compared to all the other glass bodies on the market.
Welcome to the site, lot's of help here.
I also did not find this site until half way thru my build, Roscoe was a great source of information.
Some great people here waiting to help the next guy with the same desire.
Good Luck with the build, ask for help anytime.
Jim

If those are the original T-Bolt heads they are High Rise. VERY cool, very rare. Sometimes referred to as the "Tall and Terrible" heads because of the extra large ports. They were banned by NASCAR in 1965, so Ford went to medium riser heads. Not to mention the matching alloy 2X4 intake. I've seen that intake sell for as much as $1500 by itself, IF you can even find one!

If there not high rise, they were replaced with other heads at some point in the cars history. My high rise heads came off a T-Bolt and there date coded 1964 (and intake).
