Emergency Cable hook up
Well, i finished the wiring and installed my shifter today along with my emergency brake handle. The shifter shifts ok but it could be a hell of a lot better. 3 and 4 is hard to get. The shifter (hurst) is brand new so i am thinking (hoping) that it needs to be adjusted a bit more. Transmission is a 67 4sp toploader. Got the handle and shifter from That famous Toploader store in the states. So famous that i can't remember his name right now.
Now, the emergency brake handle is installed but i dont know what i am going to use to hook it up to my cable. The handle is from Finishline and the cable is what AC suggested (Chevette cable). The cable end is a loop and there is a clevis bolted onto the handle. Should i just get a little muffler style clamp and bolt the cable to the clevis that way. What do you suggest. Thanks Automan. |
Can you post a pic of the handle end? I have a Lokar brake handle, seems a little different.

That looks just like the Lokar unit. I used the Lokar unit along with their Emergency cable kit along with the bracket from A & C that bolts to the rear cross member. Jim |
Mine came from Lokar and it looks just like that. Seems mine has a threaded rod in the clevis on the bottom of the handle. There is a block with holes, the cable ends go through the holes in the block and are held by the set screws. The threaded rod is adjustable to get the correct tension.

That threaded block I believe comes with the cable from Lokar, I think you can order it from Finishline also.

Automan...looks like you need to get the 'accessory kit' for the Lokar parking brake. Not necessarily recommending this site, but you can see the kit at http://site.mawebcenters.com/ksautop...l?catId=194753

Hey guys. Thanks for the help. I ended up fabricating the assembly at work and i installed it over the weekend. Just like the picture you sent me of yours. It works!!!. Tension just a little too tight right now. Car holds after Three clicks.
Also completed the brake line hookups and almost finished the Clutch Cylinder line hookups. Still need one more bubble end fittling for the slave cylinder and then i can bleed both systems. Next is Door latches. Automan |
