Interior Question for AC
Hi Guys, Did any of you put any insulation on the rear wall behind the seats. I am going to start putting in the insulation ,carpet, seatbelts and seats tomorrow. I have enough heat barrier insulation to cover 100% of the cockpit but do i need to.
Also, should i install the seatbelts and seats first, then remove them and install the insultation and carpet. Come back and then drill through the carpet and insulation again through the predrilled holes. Or just install the carpet and then drill through the carpet and insulation. Getting real close now to turning it over for the first time and going for a small spin. Hey, once she starts (64 427) should i just let it idle for a bit or rev it at a higher RPM for a bit. I put insulation everywhere in the cockpit. I drove mine without the interior rug and sound barrier for a couple weeks. Then put in carpeting and insulation and I noticed a big difference in the sound of the vehicle. Little squeaks and clunks disappeared. The trunk is a big noise amplifier, large hollow space.
I placed my seats and belts, attached them, and adjusted them. I then had the carpet installed. Glad you are getting close, keep us posted. Regards, |

If is a new motor or freshly rebuilt you want to start it and let it run at about 1,500 - 2,000 rpm for the first 1/2 hour MINIMUM. That is just a standard that I have used for years and it hasn't let me down yet. Terry |
I installed Dynamat and then standard insulation in the entire cockpit.

be careful when drilling through carpet you can ruin it by pulling a thread (winding it around the bit). install belts first then sound inso and carpet

Just a heads up .If you start the engine from new ,make sure you run it at 2000 rpm for at least 15 minutes.If you don't you run the risk of the cam wearing prematurely,which will be a bummer!!!Good luck

agree with pmfranke, go get an awl to make the holes through the carpet...do NOT even attempt to put a drill bit through them!
