Frame painting-- POR15

Shot the frame with por15. I was going to brush it. My buddy here talked me into. Overall much easier to do. A little bit more clean up but a great finish. Bought the air gun from harbor freight for 12 bucks. Reduced paint with MEK from Lowes. Shot most unseen parts that are hanging on the ladder (little brackets of all sizes). I'm going to try some powder coating for some of the seen parts-- motor mounts, rear end control links etc.

Anybody try the summit powder coating system?

looking good! I've also been wondering about the powder coating system. Craftsman has one as well.. same thing as the summit kit. htere was an article a couple months ago in muscle mustangs and fast fords or 5.0 magazine I believe, where they tested one. I'll find the magazine, I know I brought it with me to Iraq, and see if I can't scan it and post it here. It's a pretty good read and their piece turned out great!

I've not used the Summit kit.. I got mine from Eastwood and it works great !!!!!!!!!!!!.. BEWARE, they do warn not to use the oven for food once you have used it to power coat (not sure why, but they do make a clear point to advise of this).

I was also going to recommend the Eastwood system, I have personally used it and it is an easy to use and high quality system. Another thing to note is Eastwood also offers tons of different color powders as well. jimig@standardtransmission.com

Just for future reference, even though your spraying outside you should still use a resperator. or atleast a good dust mask. POR15 is really bad for the lungs..

Drop cloths? Did you forget or don't care about overspray on the driveway? I always tell my crew..."If we don't have time to cover it up, We'll have time to clean it up". Stuff looks good though.

Moisture actually accelerates the curing of POR-15.I would hate to see what happened to someone who inhaled it.The most important thing about POR-15 is the surface prep.Too smooth a surface and it will peel off in sheets.

The oven warning is issued because you know who will tear you a new one for stinking up her oven/kitchen/house with your stupid car parts..

Resprerator would have been a good idea. Had it on for a few minutes. After working with model airplane dope for so long the fumes didn't seam so bad. The aggregate concrete needs as much sealing as it can get. Too bad it was black. I'm betting by spring it will be gone.

What I like about Summits system is that it self contained. No need to hook up the air compressor. I bought a small oven on ebay for 3 bucks plus some shipping. 12x10x16 and it goes to 500F. I'll need to put some hooks in the oven to hang some parts. Anybody use a table top oven?

I did POR-15 on my FFR frame. It looks really nice and is very tough. However, I believe you need to spray over it with a paint that is not UV sensitive. You might want to check with the POR folks, but I don't think it is compatible with sunlight.
