Wind wings installation problems
Hi everyone: Im having trouble installing my wind wings on my windshield. Now the Windshield is from Antique and collectables that came with the kit. The wind wings and the mounting hardware is from Finishline. First of all, the bolts that came with the hardware is a totally different thread then the little bolt that came from the windshield. The windshield bolt is 10-24 thread. Thats nothing i guess, i can get new bolts with the proper thread size. The problem is that the bolts going into the windshield is angled but the mounting base on the hardware guides the bolt straight in. So if i get a bolt long enough to consider such an angle, there is no way i can tighten it enough to sit flush with out causing some damage.
Did anyone else go through this problem and how did you fix it? Thanks in advance Automan |

One option is to not use the screws that hold the windshield to the posts.
Just line them up the way you like and drill/tap holes in the posts. |
If you drill the hole in the mounting base, larger,... you can then use the longer correct thread bolts, that you buy, and cut to the right length, because if they are too long, that's not good either,... then the mounting blocks will sit better to the windscreen posts, because the longer, cut to size bolts, can go thru them at an angle. Buy yourself a wire cutting pliers, that also cuts small bolts. Buy extra bolts so you can test cut different lengths until you get just the right length.
Or you can do what xlr8or said. Bolts that are too long for the visors, if you install those too, will crack your windshield! |

I would suggest not using the existing tapped holes with longer screws. I have heard of people breaking the glass because of wrong length screws. Do asearch right here on this forum. Roscoe, I and others did not use the existing locations but located new positions some people drilled and tapped. I drilled thru the brass, chrome plated frame behing the glass more towards the passenger side of the glass and simply used longer stainless hardware with the nuts that have a dome on them, sorry don't no the name, but you can't see the screw. Look great and no issues with the glass. Good luck. Jim |

I also do not use the current holes. I drilled holes and tapped 1/4 x 20 threads.
