Ground Clearance
How bad is this? Is the radiator going to rip out? 4.5" to 5" of clearance? I'm a little concern of driving down off my drive way. Any tips on ramps for curbs? I was thinking of sandbags flatten out for a small ramp. %/

Are you able to lift and tilt the top of the radiator backwards?
|
road debris would be my concern. i might consider putting in some sort of plastic deflector.
|
No tilt available. The lower left outlet would be blocked from the cross member. I have just enough 2" to get the outlet hose run with a 90 degree bend. If I could do it again I would get a small radiator. Its a 27x19 I believe. 2" would have been huge. I could have more tilt. I saw speedway motors had a plastic grill screen they use on dirt tracks I was going to give that a try.

nothing to do with your original post, but just an observation or two. the upper hose is pretty heavy with the filler on it, i would support it or it may vibrate
and crack the gooseneck on the radiator. the fan looks like a good air mover but you may have idle overheating without a shroud pulling the air thru the parts of the radiator the fan isn't in front of. see my gallery for how i did the electric fan with a shroud i have a pic of the radiator out of the car |

Maybe you can raise and tilt your radiator back towards the engine compartment. This would reduce any pending damage to the lower radiator from road debris and also would shorten the hose lenght.
Other that that, maybe you could build a screen (expanded metal) to protect that section hanging under the car. It appears that any rocks, metal or chunks of rubber could result in very expensive damage to your car. Best Regards, Bill |
Not that this will help but I didnt like the way the stock mounting looked and the way the radiator hung below the frame. Looked like a problem just waiting to happen. I scrapped the A&C set up and did my own with a back tilt. Now when you look at the car from the front there is no radiator hanging below the car.
I dont know if it was worth the bother but it made me feel better. Aaron |
That's nothing......I've got 'three' inches.............
|
3" LOL
Do any know if its possible to have the lower outlet cut out and re welded up a few inches? Will this screw up the flow in the radiator or does that matter? I could give it some tilt and move it up a few inches if the outlet is moved. Ron |
My radiator is 19X24, yours must be really large?.
|
Whats a good size for a stoker Windsor? recommend was 19x27ish If I go smaller that would be easiest.

That clearance is more then enough. Unless of corse you plan of 4 wheeling with it. HAHAHA. Car looks great!!!.
Loud, Great. Just as it should be. 850miles on mine so far. And i havn't been leg burned yet. No need for a Heat shield. Automan |

After all my fretting. I backed her down the drive and she slid nicely off the curb. Ground clearence not a factor. She runs like a bat out of Hell! Also wakes the dead!. Did my version of Go karting with no hood or trunk. Sweet. What a rush! Kudos to A&C and the Gel coat. Got me up and rolling in no time. Well at least faster then if I had to fill and paint. Just put the hood on and latches tonight. Tommorrow trunk and carpet. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/drive2.JPG |
