1/2 tank or full tank???

What do you all think.
My car hooks really well with a full tank of fuel (20 gallons) but with a 1/2 tank or less it is pretty loose.
do you think I will get better 1/4 mile times with a heavy load hooking up better or a lighter load with more wheel spin?

How full was your tank in Laughlin?

Mike.

Lighter weight helps at the drags.

DWRAT 01-12-2010 09:44 PM

Funny Mike,
It was pretty low that day.

COBRANIP 01-12-2010 09:55 PM

....1/2 TANK.....and learn to launch better with that (lower) weight. The first 2 seconds it helps....the rest of the trip it is hurting your time. Everything is compromise.
My 2 cents.

Leave the line with the tank full. Then jettison 3/4's of the fuel in second. Alla Darrell Waltrip, bombs away!

NO?

Pushed the envelope, worked in the gray areas, outsmarted the other guy, tweaked the car and invented new applications. And sometimes, just for fun, they stuck it to the man.

But cheated? Never. Doesn't happen, not in the eyes of the racers.

Add lead to the car and put it where you want

DWRAT Dan Gas weight is about 7.5 pounds a gallon. You have to figure out the different between full and half tank of gas in weight. Put the weight in the back of the car on or inside the frame. go with a 40/60 split with more going to the R/R tire side. Also try 3/4 of full weight to start and see how car reacts to this. Adjust from there. Rick L. Ps you may have to change your driving style a little. Smoother is faster overall. This goes for 1/4 mile racing or road racing. Rick

I always got the best runs with full tank plus 90lbs of lead in the trunk. I have very much power and added weight at the right place helps me instead of slowing my departure. The initial grip is better with weight on the rear wheels.

Rick, auto fuel is a little over 6 lbs/gal. Here is a reference:

I run more lead in the fuel

Robert Mclinden Bob I run alot of lead in my gas.%/ I think it weights a little more.;):) Rick L.

I seemed to get better times with a full tank in my 2003 Cobra Mustang. That first 60 feet is probably more critical than the extra 40 pounds of fuel all the way down the track.

Your car is making lots of power making traction even more critical.

The best way of course would be to try it, I'm betting a full tank wins. :D

Fordzilla 01-15-2010 06:57 PM

First, try 3/4 of a tank for a compromise.
If not fill it up, it's better to hook at launch & carry the extra weight down the track.
