Looking at a cobra built by ACI
Hello
I am looking at a 427 NAF that was built by Auto Classics International in I believe the Phoenix area. I think it was built in 1993 by ACI. The kit appears to be a 1985 model. It is Blue with white stripes and yellow club stripes on both front fenders. It has a 351 cleveland, top loader trans and a 9" rearend. Is there anyone out there that knows any history on ACI or this Cobra? |
Karl,
You are the resident NAF guru..... Mike |
This car also has the fuel fill on the left rear fender vs. the right.
|
True. I'm on my second NAF body, but I've never heard of ACI. Was that someone that put cars together?
|
Karl
Yes, ACI is supposedly who built the car in the early 90's. I am lead to believe they were in the Phoenix area. Just trying to put a little history togather on the car. Any help would be appreciated. As a side note, do you know if the headers and pipes from another Manufacture will work on an NAF? I have a 351 cleveland 2v motor. Thanks in advance for your help. Mark |
There is a guy in Superion that started or owned NAF. Jack ? Karl can help you with last name and telephone number. He has a bunch of parts and bodies in his yard. If you get ahold of him I'm sure he can give you lots of information on that car. Karl....what's Jack's number?
|
Mike
I spoke to Jack in Superior the other day. He was aware of ACI and knew a little about them. I was interested in digging a little deeper on the company that built the car. Jack Is a wealth of knowledge on the NAF Cobra. Thanks for you help. Mark |
Bringing this thread back from the dead, but it sounds like we're talking about the same car!
I've also been trying to find out a little more specific information concerning ACI, as we've got an example that sounds strangely familiar that we're trying to unload. It appears to be a quality reproduction, with use of high quality components...But, as you've found, there's little to no information to be found regarding the company. I'd be very interested to hear what this Jack individual has to say about them, though! |
Funny, when I first saw the make, "ACI" I hoped it was a mistake. I have "ACE" also without having gotten much information after much research. Mine was built in Atlanta in 1994 with the VIN number ending in 001.
After talking to several knowledgable people, several told me the body looks identical to the cars built by Excaliber, near Milwaukee in the early 90's. Thought maybe after "ACE" went belly-up they changed their make to "ACI." Ralph |
To the best of my knowledge there isn't one in Tucson. We have a NAF but it's a different color.
