Speedo correction
Those of you in the Phoenix area probably know of Dick's Speed-o-tach in Tempe. I recently received two photo-radar tickets within 3 hours of each other and decided I had to do something about it. Club members recommended Dick's and I went to have my speedo fixed. Mike Blish took about 45 minutes on the dyno and one 17 tooth gear to bring my speedo to within about one mph of accuracy. Nice guy and good work. Reasonable too! About $90 with parts. If you haven't yet, give them a try. Address is : 1900 N. McClintock Drive, Tempe, AZ 85281...Tele:480/994-9022

THey do great work over there. Unfortunately, that won't help with the photoradar greeting. I've tried it.

Go to court with your invoice for speedo repairs and I would guess the judge would dismiss one if not both of the tickets. You have evidence the speedo was off, and even though it is no excuse for breaking the law I would have to think a reasonable person would take that into consideration.

It may be different there, but that happened to me when I had my Galaxie and I had the new gear in the glove box and just hadn't had time to install it. I was stopped by a CHP who followed me for about 15 miles and he told me he knew that I was watching him and wondered why I never slowed down. I showed him the gear and told him I was on my way home from working on a problem in San Francisco and was going to change the gear when I got home. He was really nice about it and told me to be sure to drive about 10 MPH slower than the speedometer showed and let me go without a ticket. I doubt if that would happen now with the state looking for money any way they can get it.

Bill, I see you remembered how to post. For all of you who don't know. Bill is not answering his door for the next few days in case the process servers come to present his prizes.

I had my adjustment card from Dicks that showed they had calibrated by speedo and it was 4 miles off. I was 1 mph over the allowable. The judge looked at me and said, "Sorry. That's not excusable. Please pay the fine.". If you get off, more power to you.

Gofast, I wouldn't respond to the tickets you received by USPS. Come to think of it, you didn't really receive anything, did you? Outside of photo radar being used as a revenue source, the thing that really turns my crank is that it is such selective prosecution. If you'd had an out of state license plate, you'd never have to worry about a process server showing up at your door step to serve you with your good driving citation. I also agree with Ron that the chance of a reduced fine is pretty slim considering the financial state of our cities.

Karl, That might have been true at one time, but no longer. A friend from CHicago was here visiting his sister over Easter. Got flashed on the 17 and three weeks later got an invitation in the mail. He ignored it and what do you know? A process server showed up at his door week before last. The price of the fine had gone up $173 to cover expenses. So being from out of state is no longer a guarantee that you are safe.
