Well......dang.

Been having some motor issues. Running rough and going low on coolant every few weeks. Didn't have foamy oil on the stick or PCV valve and was hoping it was a bad intake gasket. I'm off this week so I yanked the intake and the gaskets looked good and so do the intake passages (ie, no clean ones). Same goes for the plugs. I did notice some minor signs of water in the oil when I pulled the dist and also in the lifter valley. It's slight though and might simply be condensation related.
So, what now? I'm tempted to pull the heads and do new gaskets. Partly to simply rule them out and also because I have a couple stripped header bolt holes and that way I could helicoil 'em.

Any thoughts and/or anybody free this week to come over and take a look?

With a minor leak in the combustion champer often times you will see it on the plug that will have a green tinge. You may also look for the recent thread covering a members issue with a head gasket leak from a stripped head bolt, that resulted in a small leak into the lifter valley. Since it appears you have a iron block it could be a small head gasket leak into the lifter valley.

expansion

Hi,
I see you have ALuminum heads, they will expand at a different rate than the iron block so you need graphite head gaskets. There is a front orientation to them. Put thread sealer on the short-lower row of head bolts. Torque the head bolts to 70 ft/lbs. Torque the intake bolts to 18 ft lbs, run and let cool and retorque, do not over torque intake, it will leak.
Good luck,,
Perry.

Yuck. At least it is an easy fix. You gonna get it done to make the run this Sat?

Happened to mine recently as well, just a tiny bit bad, just "bad enough" that I was scratching my head trying to figure out what was wrong. :)

...piece of cake, a bump in the road...

Same thing happened to me recently, except it was into the lifter valley so no water leaks. Also on one of the rear cylinders.

Got everything cleaned up. Just need to get some sealant for the short bolts and helicoil the stripped header bolt hole. Then button it up and change the oil.

Dave, probably not, we're playing NYs and I won't get to bed til 2-3. (I know, I'm a wuss). Also according to the weatherman I'm not gonna get much of a chance to do any road testing before Fri so I'll probably stick close to home for the first few drives.

FrankJohnson69 12-28-2010 05:37 PM

No... but I'll make anyone a sweet deal on mine.
