The guy could have bought the car new off any Chrysler lot and had the mods done for way less

The guys bidding there are in a completely different financial category

Not bad if was still owned by the original owner, who won it in a raffle.

mikiec, I think this was the original owner to the Children's Foundation raffle. Of course he claims CS as the original owner. Not bad for a $25 investment, eh? I remember the official presentation at SAAC Does Vegas 10!

Good to see you back on the site. I've missed seeing your name. Saw your car when I picked mine up Friday. Wasn't csx 1001 built recently in alum in England. I remember hearing part of the story but I know the 40th anniversary csx cont cars built in alum back 10 years ago only bring in the $150K range. Why so high on this one?:rolleyes:

Thanks Ron, good to be back. My engine is heading over to the dyno this week for final testing so should be showing up at Hot Rods by Dean for installation in the next two to three weeks -- finally.

According to a dealer rep I talked to at the show, Carroll Shelby has given the go-ahead for production of this engine "...that is CAPABLE of 700 hp", but the rep was vague on when, if ever, this might happen.

Good news on your motor coming soon. I have felt your pain in the past. Dean did an awesome job of repainting my front half before doing the clear bra. You cannot tell the paint breaks anywhere. I am just kicking myself for not doing the clear bra in the first place. It would of saved me several thousand dollars.

Hopefully they will have you back on the road soon.

That Was My Yellow Cobra at Barrett-Jackson
 

I was the consignor of the yellow SPF that sold for a paltry $33K on Thursday night. I was the victim of a serious bait and switch and I'm not going to go away quietly. I was given lot number 751 and told that the Thursday cars started at 10:00am with lot number 600. Assuming approximately 20 cars/hour and figuring a two hour miscellaneous delay, I figured my car would cross the block at about 7:30pm on Thursday. IT WAS ON THIS BASIS THAT I TOOK THE RISK OF EXPOSING THE CAR TO A NO RESERVE AUCTION! Little did I know that in the days and weeks leading up to the auction, B-J was adding cars to the run list and assigning them lot numbers such as 613.1, 613.2, 703.1, etc. By the time the auction started Thursday, my Cobra was NOT the 151st car that was going to cross the block that day. It was the 249th! Instead of a 7:30pm time slot, my car crossed the block at 11:15pm. The place was absolutely dead. I would have NEVER consigned this car with that time slot. No matter how nice the Cobra, it has a limited audience. You need as full house to get a fair price. Based on what Cobras sold for on Tuesday and Wednesday in the mid-40's, my car was easily a $50-60K car had it run when expected. But as the night wore on, a feeling of dread swept over me. I was helpless to do anything about it. They had my title and the car was in the "funnel". I was like a lamb being led to the slaughter. This has left a wound that is going to take a long time to heal.

Ouch, what an awful story! Sorry to hear it worked out so poorly for you. I'm sure the car was worth more than $33K.

BJ's is nothing but one big rip off for sellers and buyers. Buyers beware or be damned and sellers get screwed, right and left. The only folks that make any money are the BJ folks because they collect serious money from BOTH the buyer and seller. What a big rip off.

I watched many hours of BJ over the weekend and saw quite a few disgusted sellers after their cars were hammered down at prices that seemed way too low. Just too much of a gamble to sell at no reserve. Yes, it was a slaughterhouse.

Mcarrollo: You should sue the stinking bas$%67ds because they clearly screwed you. No complete and running SPF has ever sold for such a small sum especially one as nice as yours.

Thanks TimSullivan. I am trying to figure out my options. Of course, their consignment agreement is air tight on run times. But what happened to me was just plain wrong. When they called me in December to offer the lot number, the B-J representative said it was a "prime number". Hence, I took the plunge. In reality, it was one of the worst lot numbers of the entire freakin' sale.

I've posted about this before; just cannot understand why anyone takes a risk at BJ; insane...

I learned a LOT about B-J over the weekend and would love to find a way to share my knowledge with entire collector car community. The problem is that B-J is a major advertiser in most of the car magazines so do you think any of them are going to print my story ripping them? Perhaps the Arizona Republic would be interested.

Barrett-Jackson is two different sales. It's a sellers market Thursday from 4-10pm and Friday and Saturday noon until 10pm. People pay stupid money for cars when it's full and the cameras are rolling. It's a buyers market all other times and an EXTREMELY good buyers market late in the evening (there was a gorgeous street rod that ran after my car that brought the same $33K and it would have done $60K on Saturday afternoon.) You can do very well as a consignor at B-J if you have a nice car and a good run time. But you can have a great car and get screwed if you have a bad run time. IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR LOT NUMBER.

So just get a good lot number, right? Wrong. Unlike other auctions, they do not offer premium lot numbers for an increased price. You submit your photos and description and wait to hear that your car was selected and, if so, what is your run time. Regular folks like you and me are NEVER going to get a premium run time. Not going to happen. As my case demonstrates, even if you think and are told you have a good number, you may not. Oh, one more thing. If you complain about your lot number, you're out. They'll pull your car from the sale. Go somewhere else and have a nice day.

Where did these 100 cars come from that got plugged into the auction during the middle of the day, pushing me back to the wee hours? Who knows? I was told they were full as of October. Hmmm.

If you can somehow get your car across the block during prime time, it's still the best place in the world to sell your car. But if you can't, try eBay.

You should have listed the car on Cobra Country. I know the car personally. Very nice, new paint, and the previos owner went through it front to back. That being said, it was a very early chassis. My guess is that it was a $40k to $45k car based on the current market.

BTW - I hear some back handed comments about Mecum auctions, but at least you can protect yourself with a reserve price, decide to lower your reserve on a whim, and even negotiate a better commission deal on the fly with a handsahake.

Fun to watch on the flat panel, but I'd never get near Barrett Jackson...even if I won the super lotto.

Right there with ya! I was 745 and my car went up at 11pm. I could not believe the number of cars they wedged in. The 61 corvette behind me was immaculate and original and it only sold for 52-ouch! At a reasonable time slot that car would have brought at least 75K. I dont guess I would complain if they put really nice cars in front of us, but a lot of them made no sense. They were not nice and were not items that people would want to see on television or at the auction. I was told my car would sell around 8:30-9:00pm and would be on television. Instead it went at 11pm when there were about 20 people left. I dont think there is much you can do though. im sorry you got screwed!
